Year 11 Performance Evening

Congratulations to our Year 11 Music and Drama students for their wonderful showcase evening on Tuesday, 28th May. Our music students performed a group number and a solo each and the variety of instruments and song choice made for a very entertaining evening.

Year 10 Drama

On Tuesday the 14th of May the year 10 Drama class visited the Melbourne Theatre Company to see the performance of “The Violent Outburst That Led Me To You”. This new play by Finegan Kruckemeyer was a great foray into professional performance work that students will be exploring as they move into VCE drama. The play was a wonderful demonstration of the theatrical conventions and dramatic elements that the students have been studying this semester. The play told the story of Connor, a sixteen-year -old boy who is angry. He doesn’t know why and he doesn’t know where to direct it. People and things he once liked annoy him. His parents, his best friend, his once cool uncle, now all officially suck! Then, after a final outburst, his parent drop him off in a forest… for a week… by himself…. to calm down. It is then that Connor’s rite of passage begins. Funny yet poignant – “The Violent Outburst That Led Me To You” was a great play – highly recommended.

Year 11 Drama Ensembles

This year the year 11 drama students had to create a presentation that was eclectic in performance style. The topic given for the girls to explore was "Witch Hunts". The three groups each created fabulous interpretations of this topic. Each performance was a wonderful blend of comedy and pathos with clever insights into both traditional and modern day witch hunts. Congratulations on fabulous work girls. Well done.

Year 12 Drama

The year 12 Drama class presented their Unit 3 Ensemble to family and friends on the evening of Tuesday the 21st of May. In twenty minute performances the students demonstrated their use of conventions and elements of Drama they have studied through out VCE. With a given stimulus “Artificial Intelligence”. Background information was as follows:

“Artificial intelligence (AI) in practice is the ability of computer systems to perform tasks normally undertaken by humans, thus being capable of human behaviour. Although AI has existed for some decades, many believe this field of knowledge has now advanced to the point where computers can think autonomously from humans. Recently, several of the world’s most intelligent and respected computer scientists have warned of the power of artificial intelligence.”

Both groups crafted clever and engaging performances that acted as cautionary tales. Set in any location, between the past, present and future, these plays were eclectic in performance style. Congratulations to both performance groups, on creating funny, entertaining and evocative pieces. Good luck as you move into Unit 4 – Solos!
