Year 10 Mock Job Interviews

On May 23, 84 Year 10 students were selected to take part in a Mock Job interview. For 15-20 minutes, they participated in what seemed like a real life job interview however it was in front of a panel of two members from the Richmond Rotary Club. The panel pretended to be the interviewers from the company of the chosen job that the student had applied for.

In order to receive an interview, all Year 10’s submitted a resume along with a cover letter, and they were then contacted if they had received an interview. The panel asked the students the typical questions that any manager from a company would ask, such as ‘why did you apply for this job?’, ‘what are our strengths/weaknesses?’ and for some students they asked how they would respond in a specific scenario. It resembled a real life interview, and it was great practise for the interviews that the Year 10’s will be taking part in for jobs/universities in the near future.  Upon completing the interviews, all students received feedback regarding areas that went well and areas for improvement relating to both the interview and resumes/cover letters.

It’s fair to say that the Mock Job Interviews were a great experience and a great success. We appreciated the detailed feedback which we can now use in the future. We’d like to say a big thank you to the Richmond Rotary Club members who volunteered their time to interview us and for giving us crucial feedback that we will now use for a real-life interview! Also a huge thank you to Erin Edgley and Mella Pescos, the MGC Careers Leaders and Nia Holdenson, Richmond Rotary Representative and MGC staff member, who coordinated and organised the interviewers and event. We are extremely grateful for all your hard work.
