Pastors' Breakfast

Last week Wednesday, BHCS hosted the annual Pastors' Breakfast with 16 pastors from 11 churches.

It was great to meet the people who support our School's families and staff through prayer. We hold the breakfast to say thank you to these church leaders for all they do, as well as provide an opportunity to further develop relationships.

We were grateful for the opportunity to attend such an event and show our appreciation to those within our School Community that do not receive the amount they deserve.

We wish each one all the best as they contribute to serve the Lord.

School Photos

School Photos have now been distributed to students via their homeroom teachers. If your child has not yet received their photos by next week, please contact Reception.

Headlice

The School would like to make families aware that there have been reported cases of headlice in Junior and Middle School. We encourage all families to be proactive in checking their children for head lice in order to keep this problem to a minimum.

Woolworths Earn & Learn

Woolworths Earn & Learn has now ended. Thank you to everyone who has contributed. We have collected more than 14 000 stickers! If you still have stickers at home, it's not too late. You can bring these to Reception up until next Wednesday, September 16.

Operation Christmas Child

The School has decided to help those less fortunate by supporting Operation Christmas Child. Families would have received a letter with information about this.

Here's a reminder of some items to include in Samaritan's Purse Boxes:-

  • Something for school e.g. exercise books, grey lead pencils, erasers, sharpeners, pencil cases
  • Something to wear e.g. T-shirts, thongs or slippers (as many don’t have shoes)
  • Something to wash with e.g. toothbrush, hairbrush, face washer, soap, hair ties (no toothpaste please)
  • Something to play with e.g. outside toys such as balls, toy cars, skipping ropes, marbles, small plastic animals
  • Something special e.g. $2 recorder, harmonica, torch, sunglasses, stickers
  • Something to love e.g. teddy bears, dolls, soft hand puppets, small soft toy

Things not to include:-

  • Anything liquid eg deodorant or soap
  • Items related to war e.g. toy guns, camouflage material, no skulls or crossbones
  • Gambling items e.g. no playing cards, dominoes

As a number of these boxes will be going to communist countries, it is important that you do not include religious materials. The punishment of some of these countries for the distribution of such materials is death. For this reason, these materials cannot be included.

We hope that this way everyone can be a part of helping someone else.

Boxes will need to be complete by Friday, 23 October, so next time you’re shopping, why not drop small into your trolley.

Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge

As we approach the end of the Victorian Premier's Reading Challenge (ending 14th September), we encourage you to make sure you have added all the books that you have read to your online portal. If you are having any issues please see Mrs Frater in the DC for help. Well done to all the students who took up the challenge!

Learning Potential

The Australian Minister for Education and Training, Christopher Pyne, has launched ‪‎a free smartphone app with articles, videos, tips and suggestions to help parents keep involved in their child's learning.

Minister Pyne said the Learning Potential app, developed by the Australian Government Department of Education and Training in consultation with the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA), offers ‘inspiring ways for parents to become more engaged in their children’s learning at any age – from high chair to high school’.

The Minister said that parents can personalise the app so that it provides tips and ideas that are relevant to their child’s age group, but said that the app is ‘completely private – no data is collected’.

For more information visit the Learning Potential website.
