Senior School

SHARRON FRAME

Head of Senior School

Welcome to the new school year. As I return to life at Oakleigh Grammar as the Head of Senior School this term, I would like to take a moment to thank and acknowledge the work done by those who filled in for me during Term 4, last year. I left to travel in Europe with my husband knowing the Senior School and the students were in excellent hands. Thank you to:

  • Deputy Principal-Operations, Peter Dickinson who took on the role of Acting Head of  Senior School.
  • James Gobbo who managed the Senior School examinations including the demanding external VCAA examination period.
  • Manoj Patel, Acting Year 10 Coordinator.
  • Steve Zafiropoulos, Acting Year 11 Coordinator.
  • And of course, Soula Mitsopoulos, my wonderful PA.

With nearly 200 students in total, the Senior School is the fullest it has ever been since I accepted the role of Head of Senior School. With the large increase in student numbers, the management of the Pastoral and Wellbeing programs have expanded to include two new Coordinator roles. Congratulations to Manoj Patel, Year 10 Coordinator and Andrew Phillips, Acting Year 12 Coordinator. I am looking forward to working closely with both of them this year as they settle into their new roles.

Working with me this year in the role of Home Group teachers are:

Year 10: Marina Kaam and Rosa Avzangelis (10A)

Pili Varsos and Louis Panagopoulos (10B)

Sharon Cheung and Manoj Patel (10C)

Year 11: Dan Liu (10A)

Eudora Lao (10B)

Jacqui Thomas (10C)

Angela Korlos and James Gobbo

Year 12: Andrew Phillips, Jenny Bean and Joshua Sperling

VCE Results 2018

The release of first round offers in January saw a variety of different pathways offered to the graduates of 2018. As in previous years, many opted to pursue studies in Business/Commerce and Health Studies.

The choice of tertiary destinations was smaller than previously, but that was due to the size of the cohort. Whilst Deakin University proved to be the most popular university destination, a number of our non-scored students also secured placements in their chosen certificate courses at TAFE.

Congratulations to the class of 2018. May you all follow your dreams and find success in your chosen path.

As one group leave another begins their final year at Oakleigh Grammar. The Class of 2019 were presented to the school community at the Commencement Assembly on February 1st. This is the largest Year 12 cohort for some time.

The time will move faster than they realise. Camp, assessment, final sports days and more assessment will make up the majority of the term, and as we help settle them into the routine, I would like to remind parents and guardians that you are also an important part of their support network. What happens at home impacts on school, and what happens at school impacts on home. So if you have concerns, please do not hesitate to make contact

Leadership Induction

The school leaders were indicted on February 8th. Each confirmed their commitment to the School Community before receiving their badges. Working with this group is always a privilege. As the year progresses, they become more confident and self-directed. They have already proven their willingness to accept responsibility, and a desire to give back to the School.

The School Captains in particular, have to balance study, home and representation of the School. At the recent Senior School Information Evening, William Athanasakis (School Captain), Vasiliki Tamvakis (School Captain) and Janvi Gupta (School Vice Captain) addressed the parents in attendance, and answered questions about their journeys through Oakleigh Grammar thus far. They were articulate and demonstrated a mature understanding of the demands placed on them in their final VCE year. They role modelled to the School Community exactly what a leader of the School Community should be. Congratulations on a job very well done.
