Principal's News

MARK ROBERTSON

Principal

Our 2019 School year has commenced with great positivity and energy. Over 85 new students and 10 new staff have joined our Community this year. As Principal I take great pleasure on a daily basis to informally chat to our students, parents and staff. These conversations allow me to capture the true spirit and essence of our School, with the key priority of mine being to ensure that all members of our Community feel valued.

From a strategic point of view, I regularly refer to the Vision, Mission and Values Statement of our School. To this end Oakleigh Grammar has developed a Teaching & Learning Model that reflects contemporary pedagogies and approaches in order to maximise and engage students in their learning.

We have recently held three whole school assemblies including our Commencement Assembly, School Blessing by His Grace Bishop Iakovos of Miletoupolis, and our Student Leadership Induction Assembly. A key personal quality that we are looking for in our leaders is that of personal credibility. Whilst students may be inducted into formal leadership positions, my key message to them is that leadership must be earned and that action must reflect their words. We look forward to a strong contribution from all of our student leaders, and indeed from all of our students as they exercise leadership on a regular basis.

Our 2019 our School theme is ‘Reach New Heights’, and I have extended a challenge to all within our Community to do something better than they have done before, in order to reach a ‘new height’. This theme is aspirational, and is one where the challenge can be met by all members of our School Community.

I thank all parents who have attended recent Information Evenings, and again stress the importance of timely communication and the strength of partnership between parents, staff and students.

I also thank our Parents' Association, under the leadership of Mr Robert Keoylian and Mr John Dellis for their new initiatives, in particular our Welcome BBQ/Pizza prior to Information Evenings. I also encourage as many dads to attend the ‘Dad’s Social Night’ on Monday 25th February, 7:00pm at the Notting Hill Hotel.

Lunar New Year

Our School has celebrated the Lunar New Year in great style with a swarm of red appearing on the 3rd Lunar day, particularly supported by our Chinese staff and students.

Hellenic Culture

In March our School subscribes to the Greek Language Program encouraging our students to Speak Greek in March. Our School also supports the Greek Independence Day March, which this year will be held on Sunday 24th March, at the Shrine of Remembrance.
