BISSA Swimming Carnival Report

Yesterday our Secondary swimmers competed at the BISSA swimming carnival in Wagga Wagga. Our students were a credit to our school at this meet by not only performing the best they could, but supported each other well and represented our school in a positive manner.

There were a number of students who were very close to receiving a ribbon and many students who swam faster than they did in qualifying for BISSA, but a few had outstanding performances which saw them achieve 1st, 2nd or 3rd.  These students were:

  • Bernard Uys -17-19 age group

  • 50m Breaststroke 1st with a time of 36.88sec
  • 50m Freestyle 3rd with a time of 26.66sec
  • 50m Butterfly 3rd with a time of 28.77sec
  • Ashleigh O’Neill – 15year age group

  • 50m Breaststroke 3rd with a time of 41.09sec
  • 50m Backstroke 3rd with a time of 35.60sec
  • Tahlia O’Neill – 14 year age group

  • 50m Breaststroke 3rd with a time of 41.82sec
  • Tahlia O’Neill, Maia Uys, Emma Weiser and Tilli-Rose Peters

  • 14 year old girls Freestyle relay team 1st with a time of 2:14:48, which was a clear 5 seconds ahead of second place.

From this carnival we have had 8 students qualify for individual events at the CIS Swimming in Sydney on 4&5 April 2018. This is a fantastic achievement and I would like to congratulate and recognise these students.

They are:

  • Bernard Uys – Age 17 – 19 - 50m Breaststroke, Freestyle, Butterfly, and Backstroke.
  • Ashleigh O’Neill – Age 15 – 100m Freestyle; 50m Breaststroke, Freestyle & Backstroke; and 200m Individual Medley
  • Tahlia O’Neill – Age 14 – 100m Freestyle, 50m Breaststroke
  • Maia Uys – Age 14 – 50m Freestyle and Backstroke, and 200m Individual Medley
  • Emma Weiser – Age 14 – 50m Butterfly and 50m Backstroke
  • Chloe Brown – Age 13 – 100m Freestyle, 50m Freestyle and Butterfly
  • Meiha Burns – Age 12 – 50m Freestyle and Backstroke
  • Oscar Burns – Age 12 – 50m Backstroke

I will be sending out information about the CIS carnival to these families shortly.

I would like to congratulate to all students who attended the BISSA carnival on your great results and more importantly your fantastic efforts and positive attitudes. I would also like to extend a special thank-you to Mr Lee Macey, Mrs Megan McMaster and Mr Regan Smith who travelled with the team and supported our students throughout the trip and the carnival. Without teachers who will offer their time to travel, our students would not have the opportunity to participate in events such as today’s BISSA swimming carnival.

2018 Secondary Athletics Carnival Friday 23 March 2018

This is a busy term for sport and the Athletics carnival is fast approaching. All students are encouraged to participate in at least one event. You never know when you will do something and find out that you actually are good at it if you don’t try.

Students were sent an email with a link to register for the preferred events. This needs to be completed by Wednesday 14 March. The nomination form can also be accessed by the following link https://tinyurl.com/magsathletics2018

I am aware not all students are athletic or want to compete in the athletics carnival. We expect students to attend the carnival and support their peers, another way they can participate in the carnival is to be a student helper. It would be helpful to have 15-20 students to help out with the running of the carnival. All students interested in being a student helper should email me (Mrs Kim McFadden) and let me know you would like to help.

If any parents would like to volunteer their help, please also email me on kmcfadden@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.
