History & Politics

The culmination of years of

hard work is here for our VCE Revolutions and Global Politics students, the years leading up to these final two semesters’ worth of study boiling down to a two-hour final examination in November. As I write this article the hours are counting down until the Revolutions exam, and dedicated History students sit in front of me, finalising their preparation for the end task that lies ahead. Impressively, many of these same students will line up again next week for their Global Politics exam.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our VCE students for the hard work they have been putting in, turning up to revision lectures in the city in their free time on Sundays, completing trial exams and questions, coming to school in their free time since finishing formal classes, and really taking their subjects’ exam preparation seriously. Best of luck to all of our students!

Preparation for the final VCE examinations is key, beginning with 'Flying Start' in the previous year. As our 2015 Year 12s wind down, our 2015 Year 12s need to start thinking ahead as to how to best prepare themselves for the academic rigours of 2014. The time for such thinking is now, with  'Flying Start'  about to commence.

2014 was the year of travel for the Department; Paris, Geneva, Moscow, St Petersburg and Canberra. Around 40 students took up the opportunities available to them to learn in context about the French and Russian Revolutions, the work of the United Nations and International Red Cross, the Australian parliamentary system and High Court. Once again I thank all of the staff involved in making these projects possible: Br Garry Coyte, Mr Enzo Di Toro, Ms Kaylene Menara, Ms Katrina Renouf and Mr Robert Harrod.

History and Politics has never been more alive.
