It is an exciting time for the year 6’s during Term 4! Every student will be reflecting on their memories of primary school and what their journey was like. They will begin to analyse different types of speeches, particularly focusing on graduation speeches, as part of Reading and Viewing. As always, we continue to transfer our analysed knowledge and noticings to writing, where the year 6 students will learn the structure of speech writing and applying their own memories to a graduation speech. There will be a great focus on Speaking and Listening this term, as we will be also practicing and applying public speaking skills for oral presentations.
To support your child in this area of learning you may find the following tasks at home beneficial:
- Discuss with them during car rides or dinner time what their most memorable/exciting/opportunity given moment of primary school was.
- Find past photos of their primary school events and have a chat about it.
- Continue to provide opportunities to read and analyse for comprehension.
