Principal Report - upcoming events

Dear families,

I hope the return to school for your children is going well this term. Before we know it we will be celebrating the holidays. At school, we have continued to support and run as many regular events in school that we can within the current guidelines.  We have tried to keep the big-ticket items in place.

On Wednesday 18th November we will have our new prep children attending school for the first time. Everyone is excited about meeting our latest Rolling Hills students for the first time. We have spent some time getting to know them online, however meeting them in person is going to be great.

Our year 6 students have planned their graduation events. A mixture of formal and informal activities will make up the 3 days at the end of the year. There will be a disco on Tuesday 15th between 4-6:30pm and we will be allowing the children to go home at 1:30pm on that day to get changed. Some of us will need to get our hair done ; )

The bookfair will run between Monday 23-27th November. Aside from supporting a love of reading it is also a good chance to build financial awareness by managing their spending money. There is also a Christmas pop-up stall on Friday 27th November that will be hosted by the P&F committee. The recent AGM had lots of new volunteers (great!) but as always more hands make light  work. If you can contribute some time to their efforts they are focused on replacing our outdated play equipment for next year. The more parents raise the more we will commit to as a school in partnership with you. We will be sharing some of the ideas we have early next year and hope to start upgrading by Easter 2021.

There has been news shared about a tutoring program for 2021 to help support students who may have fallen behind this year. We usually work with 23-25 students a week for 2 hours per student. This term we have worked with 53 students and have increased our efforts so that we can help stretch as many students as we can across Prep to Grade 6. We will continue this until the end of the month. This increase is funded by our school resources. The new tutoring will start next year and will be funded by an additional investment by DET.

It is the time of year when we start to come to the end of a school year and we begin thinking about next year. That work is happening behind the scenes here at school. We will have our teachers, classes and, students in place for the state-wide transition day on Tuesday 8th December. Prior to this, we do not share details with families, except for our students on the program for disabilities, who find out on the Monday before. If you do have some information that you feel you need to share with us then now is a good time to contact the school. We do not allocate students based on parents requests for teachers.

We have an assembly that we will be hosting and zooming live this week at 2:35PM on Friday.
