From the Principal's Desk

The school continues to follow the advice of the department and NSW Health with school operations. Last week there was some relaxation from the department with end of year events. This has resulted with the following:

Kinder orientation

We are able to operate a Kinder orientation program and this will take place over two days in December. If your child has a completed Kindergarten enrolment for 2021, you will receive an invite to attend the orientation.

Please be mindful that there are still restrictions in place, so the session will not look like a traditional Kinder orientation session.

Any student who demonstrates flu-like symptoms or has a fever, will not be able to attend the Kinder orientation sessions.

Presentation assemblies

Presentation assemblies will go ahead. However, we do not have the space to socially distance adults for them to attend the assemblies. As a result, we will do the following in 2020:

  • Stages will have presentation assemblies that will be livestreamed. The livestream details and links will be made available to all families, however those who have a child receiving an award, will receive a note with that information. These presentation assemblies will be just for the stage class awards, and citizenship or Colin Zemelman awards.
  • There will be a separate assembly for attendance, which will also be livestreamed.
  • Only students who are receiving an award will attend the assembly. The rest of students will be able to watch the livestream of the assembly in their classrooms.
  • There will be no stage song presented this year.
  • The stage slide show that is traditionally shown at assembly will be uploaded to Seesaw for parents to view.

We will hold an additional assembly for our prestigious awards, e.g. Dux and announcement of 2021 prefects. One parent or family member per student recipient will be able to attend this assembly. Parents will need to sign an external visitor form on attendance and have their temperature checked. Any family member (students included) who displays flu-like symptoms or a fever will not be able to attend.

Parents of students who are receiving these awards will get more information in the mail about this. Families will need to nominate who will be attending the assembly and for your child to be able to be filmed receiving their award, your consent is required.  This information will need to be returned to the school before Thursday 3 December 2020.

Please note that students who do not have permission to publish, will still receive awards at assembly, however, their award will be presented to them off screen and to the side of the stage.

Student end of year events

We are now able to offer fun activities and events at the end of this term. The lateness of the changes has resulted with the unfortunate situation where we are asking for money with tight deadlines. If you are experiencing financial hardship, please contact your child’s teacher and we can put things in place to support your family.

Equipment to school

As community transmission has remained low, I will now allow students to bring sporting equipment to school, e.g. soccer balls, hand ball and so on. This can happen from Monday 23 November. Students will still need to sanitise and wash their hands regularly at school.

Students are still unable to bring food to share with their friends to school. It does not matter if the food has been prepared at home or store bought. Advice continues to be that food sharing cannot occur at school.

Organisation in 2021

Some reminders for 2021:

Some families have done this already. Thank you!!

Our numbers are not settled for classes. So, at the beginning of 2021, students will remain with their 2020 teacher or class for a short period until we have a better understanding of how many new students are coming in and those who will be leaving.

School planning

School staff are in the middle of preparing the school plan for 2021-2024. Soon we will be reaching out to you, to find out what you think about our school vision and our potential new strategic directions. I hope to provide you with more information about this next fortnight.
