Introduction

What a wonderful week we have had. Our students have told us all about their favourite activities this week. From spelling to maps to science boxes, our classrooms are full of excited and enquiring minds. Take a look at some of what’s been going on at BBPS this week.

Prep

Gracie (Prep OP) “We are doing spelling. We have to put the words in order to make our sentence. We then get to draw the food we would like on the end of our fork.”

Mee Joo (Prep W) “We are doing our resilience journal – I am grateful for a lot of things, including my brother Gay Yun. It helps me to remember what I am grateful for and what is important”

Grades 1 and 2

Luca “ We made a huge map of streets in Melbourne and Brighton and put houses and cars on it.”

Grades 3 and 4

Daniel (3RH) “We are playing Dice Footy. You get to set up a grid and then you write in the headings and you roll the dice, multiply to get the goals, and then roll again to get the behinds. You take turns for each quarter. I like how you get to add up the scores and you can pretend your team is your favourite team”

Alex (3RH) “I like multiplying. It’s fun because you get to have two turns in one go”

Struan (3B) “I worked out that the highest possible score you can get each quarter is 60 for goals and ten for behinds, so that is 70 for each quarter”

Cassie (4D) We are writing Jumanji 2. We are writing it in our own way. We get to add our ideas into it and it is really, really fun!”

Ava (4B) “We’ve been doing our author study and learning about Jumanji by Chris Van Allsburg. We have been doing an activity where we looked at food, and what would be more expensive. Last Thursday we also went to our version of 'camp' because we missed out on camp. We did hoolahooping and an obstacle course.”

Grades 5 and 6

Maddie (5T) “We were meant to do camp this week but because of Covid we can’t. So this is our camp week and this is one of the activities we are going to do. We have done a couple of them so far but there are more to do”

Sophie (5S) “The activities are really cool because some of them you can take home afterwards. We are putting this stuff on a paper tree and it will grow moss”.

Production

Dusty (6B)

My scene is about a girl who tells a story about her friend going to an art gallery and then she wonders around the gallery and she sees a piece of art that is special to her. There are two main characters but there are lots of people playing characters in the gallery. It was a lot of fun – we got to use our imagination and change things up. I enjoyed working with lots of other students who I don’t normally spend time with.

With the main cast scenes, we workshopped our scenes and tried to act out our scenes, but it was a strange experience because we were being filmed and using zoom. But by the end I thought it was really cool. I tried to memorise all of my lines. The parts I thought I would find hard to memorise I ended up memorising really well. The other parts I thought would be easy to memorise were harder than I realised, and I was surprised by that but it was a lot of fun.

I am really happy that in my last year I got the opportunity to have a main part in the production.

My scene is all about colour, so that is my clue for people who want to know more about production.

A Call to Families For Contributions and/or Donations from the year 6 parent planning committee

Our current year 6 class of 2020 is about to graduate. As you can imagine, it's been a most unusual year to finish primary school and we are looking to make their graduation celebration as fabulous as possible given that they have led the way with their very positive 'can do' attitude.

The theme is Willy Wonka (kids idea) and we will be decorating the Kitchen Garden area for their lunchtime celebration. In order to save costs and support sustainability through repurposing, we wondered if any families would like to lend or donate any of the items below:

Pool noodles...any colour

Old hessian sacks

Large round paper lanterns

Brown plastic tablecloth or brown material

Ribbon....curling, satin

Red carpet....just like the one on the walkways

Brightly coloured paper plates...plain,stripes, spots

Wrapping paper...plain, spots, stripes

Tissue paper and/or Cellophane...clear or coloured

Large pieces of polystyrene

Cardboard tubing, P.V.C piping, old mop or broom handles

Medium plastic pots...ones that had a plant and have now been planted

Paints..(craft, water based etc)..purple, black, red, gold would be great but any colour welcome

Large purple exercise ball

Oversized, large toadstools/mushrooms (garden ornaments, children table and chairs etc)

Old fashioned wheelbarrows...again for a borrow

Large cardboard boxes in reasonable condition
