Senior School News - Year 10 to 12

Welcome back Year 11 and 12 students!

Welcome Back!  It is so great to see all Year 11 and 12 students back on-site!  We hope you all enjoy the opportunity to socialise with your peers, collaborate with your classmates and receive in-person feedback and instruction from your teachers.

Year 12 students were welcomed back with yummy lolly bags organised by the College Captains.

Year 11 Coordinators visited all Year 11 classes to check-in with students in person.

We applaud your efforts during the most recent period of remote learning. Now is the time to look towards the upcoming exam period and begin to plan and refine your study routine. Make sure you are utilising your teachers’ wealth of experience in this area. They can certainly assist you in making a study plan, if you are in need of advice.

Important Dates for Year 12 Students: Attendance in Term 4

Just a reminder about a few things regarding attendance at school during the coming weeks.

  • If you have private study periods during Periods 1 & 2, we expect that you will attend school for these periods and study in The JLC or Library. Seating has been arranged to observe social distancing measures. The only private study periods that can be undertaken at home are those that fall during Periods 5 & 6.
  • Make sure you sign in and out using the Compass Kiosk if you have private study periods so that your attendance is accurately recorded.
  • The last day for NORMAL classes for VCE Unit 3 & 4 subjects is Tuesday 27 October.

Friday 23 October is a Public Holiday, so there is no school on this day, but normal classes will run for Year 12 students on Monday 26 October and Tuesday 27 October.

** Year 12 VCAL Students please note:

The above stated last day of normal classes applies only to VCE students because they have an exam period. The last day of classes for VCAL students will be after this date and will be dependent on Outcomes being completed and ticked off. The last day that VCAL students are required on-site will be communicated to individual students at a later date.

  • On Wednesday 28 October the Year 12 Masterclass Timetable begins. This runs until Thursday 5 November. Year 12 students are expected to attend all sessions that are relevant to them during this period of time. For any periods where a student does not have a session scheduled, then they may study at home.
  • Friday 6 November has been set aside for the Proposed Year 12 Final Assembly and Celebration Day. The format of this day is yet to be confirmed due to current COVID-19 restrictions.
  • Monday 9 November is a Year 12 Study Day and Year 12 students are not required at school. The English and EAL Exams take place on Tuesday 10 November. During the examination period that follows (Tuesday 10 November to Tuesday 1 December), students are only required at school when they have an exam. The 2020 VCE Examination Timetable can be found in the VCE Exams Navigator 2020, which has been distributed to students. Spare copies are available in The JLC or find the Navigator attached.

If you have any questions regarding this information, please contact the Year Level Coordinators.

College Charges 2021

East Doncaster Secondary College Council would like to thank you for your support of the College as we endeavour to provide the best possible education for your child.

In order to provide quality programs and a comfortable and efficient learning environment for our students, the College relies on strong support from the College community. The College Charges are designed to supplement the Government’s allocation to schools to provide materials and services. These charges enable us to enrich and extend the learning experiences of our students in each subject. Please find attached the explanatory Parent Payments Parent Letter and Parent Payment Policy. 2021 College Charges are now available for parents to pay on Compass.

Parents/Guardians will also receive the College Charges and explanatory letter via the post.  Please note that there is no additional charge incurred if paying online via Compass.

For further information regarding our Parent Payments Policy, please refer to the attached documents.

1 to 1 Digital Learning Program 2021

In 2021 we will continue with our whole school 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students.

Our Year 7 and 10 students will be required to purchase a laptop, Year 8, 9, 11 and 12 students will continue with their laptop from 2020.  The purchase of these devices is crucial to the learning program as students will access eBooks rather than an extensive number of expensive textbooks.

Details of the 1 to 1 Digital Learning Program for all students and important information regarding suitable devices are detailed in the attached policy.

Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards

Please remind all students that they must carry their Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  Cards with them at all times.

ALL students must sign in/out with their card at the General Office when they are arriving late or leaving early for any reason. A reminder that Year 12 students are required to sign in/out at The John Landy Centre Compass Kiosk.

The cards are also used for any student photocopying that is done at school. The EDSC Student Compass ID/Library/PTV  is also the student PTV (Public Transport Victoria) cards. They are required to carry this card as student identification while travelling on public transport.

Students who are yet to collect their 2020 card are asked to please go to the Library. If a student loses their card, parents/guardians are able to re-order a replacement card via the Compass parent portal.
