Winter Ball 2022

Congratulations and a huge 'thank you' to all the Musicians who performed at the Winter Ball last Saturday evening.   Firstly, my thanks to Mrs Cooney and Mrs Elizabeth Harding ( Alumni 2005 and BMGS String Tutor,) who performed beautiful classical music for the formal part of the evening, together with providing elegant music throughout dinner.

For the second part of the evening, The Alumni Allstars took the stage, featuring Angus Airth (2014), Laura Williamson (2018), Hamish Davis (2020), Dane Jones (2014), Rohan Dugdale (2016), Hamish Davidson (2016), Mathew Hedges (2016), Cameron Smith (2016 and BMGS Drum Tutor), and William Hedges (2020), who were supported Ben Delaney (Year 10), William Louis (Year 10) and Samuel Gander (Year 10).  This fantastic ensemble performed two energetic sets, including several jazz standards, which kept guests on the dance floor for the reminder of the evening.

Many of the Alumni Allstars have been returning to perform at this event for numerous years and it has now become a longstanding tradition. Their expertise, enthusiasm and willingness to be involved year are year has been extraordinary and I am truly appreciative of their ongoing support.

Finally, an enormous thank you to Dr Rachel Collyer (BMGS Reed Tutor) who, with only 24 hours notice, stepped in to rehearse and conduct the Stage Band for the evening.

 Holiday Music Workshops

AIM (Australian Institute of Music) has introduced  2-Day Music Holiday Workshops  which will be run over Monday, 11th and Tuesday, 12th July in the forthcoming holidays.  Designed for students in Years 9-12 these workshops provide opportunities to:

·        experience playing music, singing or songwriting

·        be mentored by AIM’s own accomplished musicians and educators.

WORKSHOP #1: Music Performance

Learn, practice and perform contemporary and classic pop, rock and soul tunes, under the guidance of Australia’s leading music mentors.

What will  students do?  Over the course of two days, students will be taught to perform and play a mix of songs they will love to learn. They'll also participate in highly collaborative music activities with AIM staff and other students. All students will then have the opportunity to perform the songs they've honed live on our concert stage, in front of family and friends!

WORKSHOP #2:  Songwriting

This songwriting workshop is essential for any high school students curious about writing songs and performing and is a golden opportunity to work with an incredibly accomplished songwriters.

What will students do?  Students will work with professionals to expand their songwriting skills in a collaborative and inspiring environment in this two-day workshop. They will workshop harmony, melody, style, lyricism, basic arrangement and/or production and artistic performance. Under the guidance of AIM lecturers, they will use these new skills to write original music in collaboration with other students in the class. They will present these songs live in a performance for family and friends at the conclusion of the workshop.
