Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

Our final Newsletter for the Term. Time sure flies when you're having fun! And so much fun and amazing learning achievements have been had in Term 2.

Next week Mid-Year Reports and IEPs will be made available to families and this will be a great chance to reflect on the efforts and achievements of each student. Teachers spend a considerable amount of time teaching (of course) and planning for and monitoring learning, culminating in reporting which should be seen a celebration of achievements.

No matter how big or small the growth that is achieved (everyone will achieve at different rates and in different ways), students at ACS have shown tremendous 'Commitment' to their learning and should be very proud!

Special Morning Tea

Regardless of what the pictures below might suggest, I have not spent the last fortnight just having morning teas!

It is however one of my favourite things about my job, being able to spend quality time with students who have not just displayed our School Values of 'Care, Collaboration and Commitment' (day in and day out), but who have banked their Creek Coins up and cashed in for a morning tea with me.

Students in Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 after a very patient wait... were able to join me, in my office for some quality conversations and delicious treats. From conversations about their favourite parts of school, to what they are doing on the holidays and many things in between... it was a real pleasure to spend time with these wonderful young people.

Pyjama Day

Have you ever wished you could wear your pyjamas to school?   Thanks to our wonderful Student Representative Council (SRC), all students and staff are encouraged to wear their pyjamas, onesies, dressing gowns or just something comfy on the last day of Term 2, Friday 24 June 2022.  Our SRC will be collecting gold coin donations on the day to help raise money for Geelong Animal Welfare Society.

Camps Sports & Excursions Fund (CSEF) Applications Close 24 June 2022

WHAT IS IT?

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF) provides payments for eligible students to attend activities like:

  • school camps or trips
  • swimming and school-organised sport programs
  • outdoor education programs
  • excursions and in school activities.

Payments are $125 per Primary School aged student per year and $225 per Secondary School aged student per year.

Applications for 2022 close THIS COMING FRIDAY THE 24TH OF JUNE.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

On the first day of term one (31 January 2022) or the first day of term two (26 April 2022), a parent or legal guardian of a student must:

  • be an eligible beneficiary of one of these cards:
    Veterans Affairs Gold Card
    Centrelink Health Care Card
    Pensioner Concession Card
  • OR they must be a temporary foster parent
  • OR the student is 16 years or older and holds a valid concession card (such as a Youth Allowance Health Care Card)
  • AND the parent or legal guardian must submit an application by the due date.

Parents who receive a carer allowance on behalf of a child, or any other benefit or allowance not income tested by Centrelink, are not eligible for the CSEF unless they also comply with the above.  Eligibility will be determined when the parent’s concession card successfully validates with Centrelink on either the first day of term one or term two.

HOW TO APPLY

Contact the school office to obtain a CSEF application form or download from COMPASS by clicking on the Community Icon \ School Documentation \ Parent Information \ CSEF \ CSEF Application Form.

HAVE YOU HAD CSEF IN THE PAST?

If you applied for the CSEF at your child’s current school in 2021, you do not need to complete an application form in 2022 unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

You only need to complete an application form if any of the following changes have occurred:

New student enrolments: Your child has started or changed schools in 2022 or you did not apply in 2021.

Changed family circumstances: Such as a change of custody, change of name, concession card number, or new siblings commencing at the school in 2022.

Please check with the school office if you are unsure.

Canteen Opening Term 3

We have some exciting news about our Canteen service!

Next term, we will be offering an onsite service, 3 days a week – Monday, Thursday and Friday.

H & H Canteens will be providing the service with Kylie Taylor as their onsite Manager. Both H & H Canteens and Kylie have a number of years’ experience in servicing school canteens and we are really thrilled to be partnership with them.

Lunch orders can be placed using the QuickCliq app.  The menu will be updated over the break so keep an eye out  for further communication.  The cut off time for orders will be on the day of order, so if you are wanting lunch on Monday orders will cut off at a particular time that day (TBA in further communication).  Over the counter sales will be available at recess only and cash can be used for this.

Please bear with us as we all learn together how to successfully implement this new and exciting service at ACS.

The online ordering system will close for renovation on Friday 17 June and will open up when the onsite service is ready to commence – hopefully Day 1 Term 3!

Please stay tuned for more information via Compass (most likely over the school holidays).

This applies when riding:

  • in recreational parks
  • in car parks
  • on footpaths.
