Experiencing Live Theatre

A few of the educational and cultural opportunities I wanted to offer students this year were to experience live theatre, as well as authors speaking about the texts we study. The writer of the Year 12 text Nine Days, came to speak to students about the writing process and constructing historical fiction based around Richmond, Victoria. Toni Jordan offered insights into settings, themes, characterisation and symbolism, offering students an opportunity to ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of the novel. Pictured above are Year 12 students - Reece, Ollie, Rex and Latoia with author Toni Jordan.

In Term 3, Year 12 English students will watch The Complete Works Theatre Company perform scenes from the comparative texts The Seven Stages of Grieving and The Longest Memory. We look forward to this opportunity to further our understanding of the play and novel through live performance and welcome students from Beaufort Secondary College to enjoy this with us.

The Year 11 English students watched a performance of Shakespeare’s Macbeth by Complete Works Theatre Company. It was an exciting and rewarding chance to experience live theatre, which assisted students in their understanding of the play. In Term 3, Year 10 English and Literature classes will watch a performance of Romeo and Juliet to accompany their study of the play. Due to the restrictions of the last few years, it is lovely to now be able to enjoy live theatre and face-to-face experiences again.
