Indigenous Education Inquiry

Reconciliation Action Plan Team

Howdy everyone,

As many of you will know, this term’s inquiry topic was based around exploring, understanding and celebrating this country’s Indigenous culture, with an emphasis on the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people and their culture. On behalf of the RAP committee I want to acknowledge the HUGE amount of work Ben May put into this term’s inquiry planner. The overall structure and weekly emphasis were Ben’s work. Of course, all teachers approached this topic with enthusiasm and fleshed out the weekly discussions in their classrooms, adding meaningful content and creating great learning experiences for all students.

A shout out to Carla here as well. It was Carla who sourced the artist, Simone Thomson, who made the school’s lovely Indigenous signage and, in conjunction with her mother, Aunty Zeta Thomson, performed our beautiful Welcome to Country ceremony. Carla also hand cut and sanded back 600 individual wooden items for student artwork. That’s above and beyond!!

But the trail of blood, sweat and tears leads directly back to Ben, who was determined to create a respectful, relevant and engaging term of work. It was a big gig. I reckon he succeeded in stunning fashion.

An enormous thank you to Ben and all staff and community members who lent their time and expertise to this unit of work.

We’re a better, more inclusive school, because of it.

Kim, on behalf of the RAP team
