Parenting Education Events

Yarra City Council

Hello from Yarra Council,

We’d like to let you know about two of the fantastic free events coming up from the Family Programs and Inclusion team. The theme of these events is around challenging concepts, conversations and encouraging communication. These events can help supply the tools, skills and language to improve communication and connection with the children in your life.

Healthier Masculinities in conjunction with Jesuit Social Services

Delivered online or face to face during July/ August

Do you want your children to feel confident and free to express themselves? Would you like to live in a community that is safer and more connected, where boys and men can be happier and healthier? Adherence to outdated stereotypes can lead to increased aggressive and controlling behaviour towards others, as well as contribute to poor physical and mental health. This information session will provide practical advice on how you can help your family break free from gendered stereotypes.

Talking the Talk in conjunction with Health Sexuality Education

Delivered online – 9 August

RESPECTFUL RELATIONSHIPS, HUMAN SEXUALITY AND BODY SAFETY

This presentation will teach you the conversations you need to have with children of early childhood and primary school age. This session covers ▪ Healthy and respectful relationships ▪ Body & Protective safety ▪ Positive reactions to normal early childhood sexual behaviour ▪ How babies are made and born ▪ Puberty preparation ▪ Internet safety and our sexualised society ▪ What is appropriate for your family ▪ At what age you should discuss these topics

Our parenting page on the Yarra website has also been revamped and will be updated regularly with regular and special events being run by Yarra and also our extended community partners, so bookmark us and check in to see what’s happening in our education area.
