Mushrooms and Fungi

Week 9

Mushrooms and Fungi by Grade 1 and 2s

Enter the mysterious dark corners of the Art Room and you may spy some strange mushrooms and fungi growing happily........Grade 1 and 2 artists have explored the characteristics of  mushrooms and fungi and recreated their own versions from clay! The biggest challenge was to make our mushrooms stand up. We learned about balance, shape and joining. We will continue to work on our mushroom habitats next term when we create tiny environments in which to present our works.

Grade 3 and 4 Pumpkins

Grade 3 and 4 students have been working so hard on their pumpkins. Firstly, they made 2 pinch pots the same size and diameter, then they had to join them to create a 'bubble' or hollow form. The air trapped inside allowed the students to shape and sculpt the bubble into a pumpkin, complete with twirled stems and cleaved segments. Then the students were asked to cut their pumpkins in half! We pierced holes through the pumpkin skin so that we could put a tiny light inside. These beautiful creations have one more transformation to go......then you will see them glowing in their glory in October for a very special event!

Personalised Paint Palettes

Grade 5 and 6 students are working on Personalised Paint Palettes in readiness for next terms project - making their own pigments and watercolours. We have looked at various ways of personalising a functional vessel - from the decoration, to the shape of the palette and how many wells we would like. We will choose a neutral glaze next term - our first experience with functional glazing.

What a wonderfully fulfilling term it has been in the Art Room! I'm bubbling with excitement in anticipation of exploring new and interesting ways to express ourselves as artists next term!

Have a safe break! Take the time to slow down over these school holidays. Wherever you are, try and give some time to..... Observe Wonder Create
