Year 11 Christian Service

Sharing Gifts 2022

Last week all Year 11 students were sent out into the community over four days to give service to others. Some of our young men were placed in Aged Care, which was a rare opportunity in these COVID times. The impact it had on them and the people they cared for was very evident when I had the opportunity to visit them during the week. Also comments from staff about our students were very heartwarming.

“On behalf of the resident and staff of Little Sisters of The Poor, we would like to send our thanks and compliments to the boys (Edward, Kaleb, Trent and Fraser) who attended last week for their Christian Service. At all times the students were polite, respectful, helpful, well-mannered, and kind. The residents enjoyed their time together and the boys were all good sports when interacting with the residents in social activities.”

Many other students were placed in Charity Stores this year which required involvement in some rather repetitive tasks but also interaction with a lively group of staff and volunteers who were so welcoming and appreciative of our student’s assistance.

I just want to thank you for Lachlan and Leon. They were an absolute pleasure to have here. They both adapted so well and were so polite, they are both welcome back here any time.

I just wanted to let you know that Justin and Finn arrived early with a professional approach, dressed appropriately, and have represented Trinity College brilliantly. I am so impressed by their customer focus, enthusiasm towards all tasks and mature behaviour.”

Students who were placed in Primary Schools also made an excellent impact on the schools they were working in, some through tireless work in the gardens, others assisting teachers with a myriad of jobs and helping children with class work but most of all enjoying having fun with younger children at breaks.

The challenge and reward of working with children with disabilities, was offered to a few students who were a real help to the places where they gave service. They also expressed how much they enjoyed the experience and appreciated what they had learnt from their time in these special schools.

Thank you to all the staff who visited students at their placements during the week and gave feedback about the student’s experience. Unfortunately, there were quite a few students, who because of sickness, could not participate fully in the week of Christian Service and Mr Oliver and I will be providing an opportunity at the end of the year for students to have some experience of the program.

Year 11 Encounter Retreat

On Monday, the Year 11 cohort were bussed and walked to their respective venues to participate in the Encounter Retreat. It was a wonderful way for the boys to reflect and unpack their Christian Service experiences. Thank you to all the retreatants for being open, honest and willing to share their experiences and to the Retreat Leaders, PCG staff and Mr Peter Oliver for giving up their time to make this a special retreat experience. I sincerely thank all families for supporting all our Retreat programmes.

Year 12 Mass

The Year 12 students gathered on Tuesday in the Chapel to celebrate their Mass. Thank you to parents who supported our young men, our PCG staff, the students and all readers and those who had special roles. Please see the photos. A special thank you to Fra Oscar for delivering an insightful Homily.

Friday Community Mass

Another lovely turnout at our 8am Mass. Thank you to all the parents, especially the return of some of our regulars, who supported our hosts, PCG 9.1 and 9.1, to Mr Allen and PCG teachers for helping our young men on their faith journey. A big thank you to our readers, especially Alex Ando for reading such a difficult passage with eloquence and skill. Thank you to our altar servers Myles and Lachlan Brown, and our Extraordinary Ministers, Zach Neveldsen and Martin Murphy - thank you and God bless! A special thank you to Fra Oscar for always preparing a special Homily.

Trinity Sunday Mass

A big thank you to all who attended, assisted at the Trinity Sunday Mass and all who joined us for morning tea.  What an incredible TC community we have!
