NAIDOC Week - Get Up, Stand Up, Show Up
NAIDOC Week is a chance to come together and celebrate the histories, cultures and achievements of First nations people in Australia. NAIDOC is a great opportunity to celebrate and connect with Community and Country.
During one lunch break Mrs Mapstone set up a big mat on the grass to chat to the Primary School students about NAIDOC week being celebrated over all schools. She read the Aboriginal Story called "Finding Our Heart" by Thomas Mayor.
Year 10s Work Experience
The Year 10s were off campus the last week of Term 2 taking part in work experience. This is designed for our students get a taste of what the workforce might look like when they leave school. One of our Year 10s, Matiah is pictured here with Chantelle from Old Broadwater Farm Weddings and Events on her week's work experience.
Great Big Day of Play
The Primary school celebrated the last day of term 2 with a Great Big Day of Play! Students designed costumes/characters, created box houses, painted and enjoyed indoor and outdoor games. Lots of smiles to end the term!
Sausage Sizzle - Update
A big THANK YOU to all who have supported Cornerstone's Sausage Sizzle. Of course, you get a delicious sausage sizzle, cooked by our student team, but you also help us support other causes. So far this year enough money has been raised to send donations to the following organisations:
Compassion Australia
Every Daughter Matters
Guide Dogs WA
Street Chaplains WA
UNICEF
We are also making a substantial contribution to the Year 12 ball.
Tree Planting - Community Connection
All our Busselton Year 1-6 classes were involved in working together to plant trees at the end of last term. This was a great opportunity to contribute to the community and learn more about community connection.
All the trees and seeds were provided by the Community Land Care Nursery and organised through the City Council. It was also an opportunity for our Year 6s to work alongside the younger students in the school. We would also like to extend a huge thank you to all our parents and volunteers - this day could not have been possible without your support.
Lapathon - Running for a Cause
Last Friday our annual Lapathon took place. All the Primary classes where involved and leading up to the Lapathon had friends and family sponsor them to run or walk laps. A great day was had by all involving face painting, selling cupcakes, dancing and most of all running.
Again this event was well supported by parents and a big thank you goes out to them. The event raised a total of $8,250.00 for the children of Bambang in the Philippines. The year 6 Class of 2022 would like to thank you for your support for this worthy fundraising event.
Athletics Carnival - High school
Last Friday the Secondary Athletics Carnival took place at Bunbury Regional Athletics Track. In near-perfect weather conditions, students from Year 7 to 12 competed admirably in both track and field events. Each House was looking to end the dominance of the mighty Benjamin House, who have been on a winning streak for years. Reuben and Naphtali set the pace early, with Benjamin and Judah closely behind. As the day progressed it was Naphtali that held out all comers, securing a comprehensive win. Benjamin showed great fight to overtake Reuben late in the day, with Judah never giving up. Most pleasing on the day was the high participation rates from our students - particularly our Year 7 girls. The carnival had great energy and spirit thanks to our amazing students, teachers and parent helpers. Thanks to everyone involved for an enjoyable day.
Final Results:
1st: Naphtali - 642
2nd: Benjamin - 431
3rd: Reuben - 412
4th: Judah - 301
