Dear Parents, Students and Friends of St Virgil’s,

Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD)

Every year, all schools in Australia participate in the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). The NCCD process requires schools to identify information already available in the school about supports provided to students with disability. These relate to legislative requirements under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005, in line with the NCCD guidelines (2019).

Information provided about students to the Australian Government for the NCCD includes:

  • year of schooling
  • category of disability: physical, cognitive, sensory or social/emotional
  • level of adjustment provided: support provided within quality differentiated teaching practice, supplementary, substantial or extensive.

This information assists schools to:

  • formally recognise the supports and adjustments provided to students with disability in schools
  • consider how they can strengthen the support of students with disability in schools
  • develop shared practices so that they can review their learning programs in order to improve educational outcomes for students with disability.

The NCCD provides State and Federal governments with the information they need to plan more broadly for the support of students with disability. The NCCD will have no direct impact on your child and your child will not be involved in any testing process. The College will provide data to the Australian Government in such a way that no individual student will be able to be identified – the privacy and confidentiality of all students is ensured. All information is protected by privacy laws that regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information.

To find out more about these matters, please refer to the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy (https://www.dese.gov.au/about-us/resources/department-education-skills-and-employment-complete-privacy-policy-0).

Further information about the NCCD can be found on the NCCD Portal (https://www.nccd.edu.au).

If you have any questions about the NCCD, please refer to fact sheet below or contact Jacinta Waddington – Head of Learning Enhancement at the College.

Year 10 Examinations

Year 10 students commenced examinations this week and so far, things have been going smoothly. It has been an anxious time for some boys leading up to exams, and no doubt for a few parents, so it is good to see some of the weight progressively lifting off the boys’ shoulders as exams are completed. With exams concluding next week, there is still plenty of time for students to aim high and a good opportunity for students to develop the necessary skills and attitudes in readiness for senior secondary.

Careers Expo

A reminder that the Careers Expo will be held on Tuesday June 21 from 6pm – 8pm in the Edmund Rice Hall. I encourage all Year 9 and 10 students to attend. An information session will be held for all Year 9 students and their families along with any Year 10 families who missed out on the Year 11 Subject Information evening about the College’s plans for Year 11 in 2023. Please refer to the recent EdSmart notification about the night for more information.  For Covid and catering purposes please register your attendance at
