Year 4 - LunchBox

The LunchBox Project

This term we have been designing a lunchbox of the future.

We have used a template to stage and plan our design. First of all we had to make 4 sketches of different lunchbox designs that we thought of. We had to think about designing a lunchbox that would keep food both warm and cool, as well as features we may need in the future.

Second we had to decide which of the four lunchboxes we would like to build.

Then we had to write down the materials that we would need to construct that lunchbox. Of course we couldn’t bring things like metal or things like that so we had to write down what we would use if we had access to every resource in the world. Then we write down what common material we would actually use and why.

Example:

A metal box shaped into a square/a cardboard box.

I would use a cardboard box because it’s sustainable and is large enough to hold your brain food, snack and lunch.

We interviewed other Year 4 students had about what they had in their lunchbox and what the lunchbox was made of.

To help with designing and engineering.

We also had to explain five things that our lunchbox must do to be a success.

Engineering:

My team of 4 struggled in the beginning trying to work well together and find the materials provided because we were not aware of what we would need to start constructing. We overcome the problem by researching materials that had similar properties to our plan.

We also had to problem solve.

Example:

In the plan that our group chose we needed foil.

So I researched and found out that bubble wrap has the same insulations properties as foil.

At my teams current state on 14/6/19 we are still finishing off our design and want to make sure it is complete before the end of term We have really enjoyed working together and overcoming problems as a team.
