Instrumental Music Lunchtime Concert

On Thursday the 30th May, we had the second Instrumental Music Lunchtime Concert in the Performing Arts wing. We had an amazing turn out of students and staff. We had many performances such as: Vocals, Keys, the Guitar Ensemble and Violin. All the Instrumental Music students have been practicing for a long time and were so happy to finally get to show the students and staff what they have been working on. The Performing Arts team are extremely happy with the end result and we are so proud of all of the brave performances and how well the afternoon went! Our Instrumental students will be practicing for their performances for the next Lunchtime Concert for next term, well done to all the students that performed and helped in any way, shape or form. We are looking forward to the next Lunchtime concert.

The Performing Arts

This term the Performing Arts have been very busy. We had an amazingly successful Song, Dance and Drama Night with a variety of performances on display. Oscar D was a standout performer and demonstrated his ability to rap. We also saw the Year 5 Enhancement class perform tableaux stories and a great array of dance pieces. MAD Music were able to perform their pieces for School of Rock, which took place in the last week of term. MAD Dance were able to showcase their work on ‘Beyond the Bricks’ for Wakakirri, which we are performing early in Term 3.

Earlier in the term MAD Dance put together a couple of fundraisers. Firstly, we had ran an Election Day BBQ where we raised over $800. We then ran a movie fundraiser (Hairspray) with great success too.

During the holidays we will be having a Wakakirri rehearsal and we are looking forward to our performance day on July 22nd. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the year brings us.

School of Rock

On the 26th June, our 5 - 6 choir and  7 - 9 MAD band attended School of Rock. It’s an event where schools from the Northern Metropolitan Region perform for other students and teachers. This year was a very special year because they are celebrating the 15th year of School of Rock, over the last 15 years they would have had 27,000 people perform and or help in some way at the event. It goes over 3 days. All of the students did absolutely amazing, The choir performed ‘How far i’ll go’ and the MAD band performed ‘Ghetto superstar’ and ‘The greatest.’ There were 13 other schools there with us and we all learnt a few new things. It was such a good time and we all got to bond over doing what we love. The students and staff cannot wait until we go again next year, they all had a really fun time and it was an amazing experience for the students and teachers alike.

Lachlan's Surf Green JLF GUITARS Custom Stratocaster Journey

I was always wanted to make a Stratocaster ( a guitar for all those playing at home)from a young age but I had already made a Telecaster when I was 5 years old. I didn’t know how to play guitar. My dad had told me if I could play him 3 full songs he would make a custom Stratocaster, So I learnt the songs and played them to him and he kept his promise. One day I went into my dad’s workshop and saw a Stratocaster body sitting on his bench painted in surf green and I had fallen in love with the colour straight away and I told him that I wanted that colour instead of black.

It took a week but finally we got started, it went really quick, in one day we had already made up the body and started sanding it, we had also sanded the neck and shaped my dad’s custom headstock to it. Next we started to paint it and we put 3 coats of surf green to it which was the quick part, but waiting for it to dry was the longest part, but you know the saying,  we had to let it dry for 20 days to make sure it was going to be completely ready for the cut and polishing stage. Once 20 days had come, we were finally able to finish the guitar.

I had been learning “Don’t Stop Me Now” in my Garage Band class, we were going to be playing it for the Lakes Song, Dance and Drama night in a few weeks. I barely knew how to play the song but I just kept practising and had learnt the guitar solo from the song, which at the time I didn’t need to learn it but I wanted to. It had come to the last week until the show and the class was able to play the song so well but we were only going half way of the song, so our teacher Marc decided to let us try out the full song and we did and we did so well on our first try, and we stuck with that, so that meant I had 4 days to learn the solo fluently and not make any mistakes. I practised every night using my new Strat and had got it sounding really good. Then the day had come, I was confident and nervous at the same time because of how many people was going to be there and I was worried what if I mess up, I’d feel so embarrassed. We were waiting for our song to be announced, to get up and play, keeping myself relaxed and confident, they called us out and I grabbed my guitar and got it set up and we started playing. It got to the guitar solo and I just started playing, my legs and arms had never shook so much in my life but I kept playing and I didn’t mess up, I could hear people cheering and clapping and I felt so amazing. The song was finished, and we had all walked off and I was so happy with the way my guitar sounded and how good we all played.
