YEAR 8-HUMANITIES AND INQUIRY

Market Day

In year 8 Humanities and Inquiry we have been studying Economics and the students were required to create a business that would meet the needs of the local community. Market Day was a complete success with students becoming entrepreneurs and selling goods and services to the school community.

“At Market Day 2019 our group sold show bags, which was successful!

We all were nervous and excited at the same time. It made us happy when parents came up to us and thanked us for being friendly and helpful. We really enjoyed the experience of market day and participating in it! Our favourite part was seeing kids smile and walk away with what they wanted.”

“Market day was a huge success. In inquiry this semester, we learned about beginning and running a business, how to handle money, loans, and what good customer service looks like. We made business choices based on data from surveys and Q and A’s which made significant changes to our business. Overall we enjoyed the day because of the new experience, all we learnt and how the day was a huge success.”

“Our business on Market Day was friendship bracelets. Our names are Jonno and Chloe. We have learnt to spend quality time with our family while also getting our work done. We would like to thank our teachers for supporting us all the way”.

“We did market day on the 18th of June, our business was selling snow cones. We learnt that doesn’t matter if it is raining or not students will still want to purchase icy products. We also learnt how important teamwork was throughout the day, we also learnt how to advertise our product properly and we learnt how to serve customers with respect. Some of the experiences we experienced on the day were when we had a small crowd at one point we had to be efficient and fast to make syrup we were giving out safe and good snow cones for the costumers. We enjoyed serving and talking to the costumers and getting to know their opinions on our stall. Overall, Market Day was a great experience for us all and we enjoyed every aspect of it.”

“Market day was an experience. We got to meet lots of happy families, as well as selling products to them. That day I learnt two things. One: planning and staying on top of things is very important in a business. And two: I am very good at handling customers.”
