Mission & Social Justice

Year 12

A school has many markers that determine its life cycle. The most common would be the calendar beginning of the school year and its conclusion at the end in December. I believe one of the most important markers is the cycle involving Year 12. As leaders of the college, the last twelve months have been a succession of lasts for them. The last Commencement Mass, the last Swimming Carnival, the last Athletics Carnival and so on.

The end of Term 3 is a very busy time and fraught with mixed emotions as the school community faces the reality that the Year 12 cohort is about to formally leave us. This is a time to recognise the richness that these young men have contributed to so many areas of school life. I know that they will be recognised in due course at the various celebrations that will take place this week, but I would like to add my sincere thanks for the way they have engaged in the various Mission events they have been involved in during their time at the college.

These have ranged from the many Social Justice initiatives where they have put the needs of others before their own, Reflection Days and Retreats to the wonderful liturgical celebrations where they have shared their faith, strengthening and nurturing our college to be a community where faith is an integral part of our lived identity.

We wish them well as they leave our college knowing that we will continue to pray for them as they face the challenges of the HSC Examinations and the successes that they will achieve in the future.

The Haven Education Centre Terrigal

On Monday Mr Hopley and myself were privileged to attend The Haven Education Centre Terrigal to donate the old St Pius X College timpani drums. They were very well received by staff and join the 30 other instruments St Pius X College have donated to The Haven for their new Music room being built. Staff said that the opportunity for their students with behavioural issues to have a time out and play with some instruments was a huge asset to the centre. A huge thank you to Mr Couani and Ms Bates for allowing this very generous offer to happen.
