Middle Years Domain Expo
The Middle Years Domain Expo will be held on Tuesday, 8th August on the Middle Years Campus. The Year 8/9 Elective Information Night will be held on this evening and a celebration of student learning in various year levels will also be happening. This is a wonderful event and highlights all of the options for students on Middle Years at The Lakes. If you are an Early Years parent who wonders what happens on the other campus, I encourage you to come and visit and view the interactive displays and presentations. This was a highly successful event last year and we had hundreds of visitors. Not only did this endorse the success of the night, but it also gave students a brilliant opportunity to share their skills and learning with a wider audience. More information will come regarding this event so keep your eye out in the local paper, the newsletter and on our Facebook page. Please make the effort to come along.
Centre of Applied Innovation Holiday Seminar 7 July
It is with great pleasure that we invite your students to the Centre of Applied Innovation on the 7th of July for a school holiday seminar. We are honoured to again be hosting American cybersecurity expert Dr. Mark Troutman in early July for our cybersecurity workshop, and he has kindly offered to share his wisdom not just with senior executives but with young people too.
We’re asking you to invite your students on our behalf. We are only inviting a select few schools and are relying on you to help us make it a success. Please encourage them to RSVP by email or on Eventbrite, as we will have a quick recess with refreshments provided and would like an idea of numbers:
Mark will be sharing his life’s journey with students, and we will follow this with an overview of the Integral Accounting system with David. The Integral Accounting system is an attempt, by no means exhaustive, to identify value attributes other than, but also including, money. By assessing and accounting for all these different types of value as part of a system and seeking to understand community values, we can organise our endeavours to optimise all value for all of humanity. This is at the core of how all of our projects are organised and will be a great head start for your students partaking in the Global Innovation Challenge (the scoring system is explicitly built on integral accounting values).
This free event is aimed at students, and we are expecting them to be organising their own attendance with the help of their parents.

Sign With Me - A Program For Parents
Two Part Webinar
Monday 31 July and Monday 7 August 2017
4pm - 5.30pm
Presentation
This session will provide an introduction to the Sign with Me program. Sign with Me is an American Sign Language (ASL) curriculum designed to help the entire family to learn to communicate in sign. Based on principles of language development, the series begins with words and phrases appropriate for toddlers. To benefit from the program participants do not need to have a knowledge of ASL. It is anticipated that the program outline could be adapted for use in Auslan.
The Sign with Me curriculum covers:
- building conversations, teaching families to sign simple, expressive sentences, follow the child's lead in communicating, and the use of facial expressions and body movement
- building concepts, which teaches viewers how to use signs to describe feelings, experiences, and concepts such as wet and dry as well as objects
- positive parenting, which demonstrates how parents can use ASL to discipline in positive ways by praising, handle tantrums, and teach appropriate behaviours.
