Open to your imagination

Me to You Exhibition - Casula Powerhouse

Year 8 Xhibit and Year 10 Visual Arts

Wow! What a way to start the year. I must congratulate all Year 8 Xhibit and Year 10 Visual Arts students for making the first term of school so very successful and productive. Recently our school was nominated to participate in a one-day workshop with professional artist Loribelle Spirovksi, a finalist for the Archibald Prize for portraiture.

The workshop provided an opportunity for students to build their skills and knowledge as well as extend their creative experience. We are honoured to have Education and Public Program Officers from Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre work with us on a collaborative project called Me to You.

This program has been arranged in conjunction with the display of the 2017 Archibald Prize Regional Tour Launch Day. The Archibald Prize is awarded to the best painting by a notable Australian. The Archibald Prize is a who’s who of notable Australian artists, attracting politicians, celebrities and sporting heroes. Prestigious and controversial, the Archibald Prize is Australia’s foremost portraiture prize. The Archibald Prize awards $100,000 prize money for the winning artist.

Over a two week period, students were encouraged to explore and express their approach to representing someone. Me to You contains portraits from the very personal to the vividly imagined. The exhibition is evidence of how hard they all worked and what can be accomplished by our brilliant budding artists. It is a fantastic opportunity for our art students to have an engaging and exciting experience, with the thrill of exhibiting their Body of Work in a gallery setting.

Me to You will be open to your imagination until 6 May at The Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre.
