Makerspace Updates
Our Makerspace has blossomed this year. At Northlea, we are working to enhance deep learning through technology and learning experiences that help students develop global competencies such as collaboration and problem solving skills. The partnering opportunities have been lots of fun and connected to curriculum in numerous ways. Below are 5 short clips that showcase examples of how we are integrating technology into the school experience.

Library Book Reminder
In an effort to get the library collection in order before the summer break, please encourage your children to return all borrowed materials before the end of the school year. Overdue book reports have been printed and submitted to teachers to send home with students, in case there are any Library materials at home. The cost to replace a lost book is $10.
Thank you in advance for helping to keep the library organized for the new school year!
Report Cards
Report cards and IEPs will be distributed at the end of the day on the last day of school.
Kilometre Club Thank You
A big thank you to everyone participated in the CP24 Live Eye celebration. It was so much fun and a great way to share appreciation with Claude, staff supervisors as well as parent and student volunteers who have helped lead this program for a decade. Thank you as well to Trustee Chernos Lin and Northlea parent, Joanna Degez, for their on-camera presentations and to our caretaker Joe and vice-principal Ms. Berger for coordinating behind the scenes and ensuring that everything was ready to go by 6 am. Capturing the joy and engagement on camera was the main event! We've requested copies of the video and will share upon receipt.
Thank you to all the parents and students who have participated with enthusiasm and commitment over the past ten years. Your involvement is what this all about and it's fabulous to watch students start their days in active and social ways.
There were numerous people who helped add some special touches to Wednesday's celebration. Thank you to following people and organizations for their contributions.

Athletics Update
Grade 7/8 Girls and Boys Slo Pitch:
Batter up! Both the boys and girls teams had great seasons! They battled some roster issues with the SEEDS trips and some tough playing conditions but ended up both qualifying for the Conference Finals! The girls lost a tough match in the Semi-Finals. The boys made it to the Conference Finals. They played well against Bessborough but ended up losing a close match. Thank you to Mr. Simms and all of the parent drivers and coaches for helping out.
Grade 5/6 Girls and Boys Slo Pitch:
The Junior Boys and Girls of summer both had very competitive seasons! They demonstrated great sportsmanship on the diamond and a lot of class. They both just barely missed the Conference Finals. Thank you to Ms. Zaharia, Mme Cowles and Mr. Ball for helping coach the teams!
Grade 5/6 and 7/8 Coed Ultimate Frisbee:
Those were some awesome tie dye team jerseys! Both of our Coed Ultimate teams showed exemplary spirit on the field and banded together in true Northlea fashion. They were laying out, running cuts and setting up plays like true champs! They did a great job at both of their tournaments and narrowly missed the playoffs! Great job Frisbee aficionados! Thank you to Ms. Gatt, Ms. Zaharia and Mr. Ellis for coaching these teams.
Grade 5/6 & 7/8 Coed Rugby:
The Grade 6 Rugby team are City Champions! They competed this past Friday at 10am @ Birchmount stadium and won the very first Grade 6 TDESAA Rugby City Championship! Amazing job! The grade 5 Northlea team finished in 3rd place in the Grade 6 division and the Grade 8 teams finished 2nd and 4th in the Conference. It definitely looks like two practices a week in rain, sleet, snow, hail, tornadoes (just kidding, but I wouldn’t put it past them) paid off! A big thank you to Mr. Benedict for all of his efforts in running the Rugby club and teams this year.
Track and Field:
Northlea sent over 50 participants to the City Finals @ Birchmount stadium on Tuesday, June 11th. We had quite a few notable finishes including Eleanor Voykin winning the gold medal in the 800m, Liam Gibson winning a silver medal in the 800m and the 4X400 Boys relay team winning another gold medal. This result is a true testament to the incredible commitment that the Northlea community puts into long distance running. With activities such as X-Country and the KM club our students have many opportunities to run for the love it and compete. A big thank you to Mr. Ellis as well for all of the time and energy he dedicated towards Track and Field this year. Thank you also to all of the staff who helped make T&F possible.
Walk & Roll to School Wednesdays
The results from our final #WalkAndRollWednesday are in! Congratulations to following classes: Ms. Lanktree (FDK) with 73% Mme. Sepetdijan (Gr.1) with 89% Mlle. Loares (Gr.4) with 95% and to Mlle. Zhang’s Gr.2/3 Class for Most Improved! Congratulations to Ms. Fazl (Gr. 7) and Mme. Gardener (Gr.8) with 100% participation! That’s a wrap for Walk & Roll Wednesday for the school year. A big thank you to everyone who participated!
Healthy Relationships with Self & Others
At Northlea our focus on healthy relationships moves from the classroom, to the stage to the field. For this newsletter, we highlight both the Roots of Empathy program and our Yoga Club led by Cassandra Calderone.
This year, Ms. Robson's Grade 5 class has been welcomed Baby Thomas to their classroom. This program has enabled students to watch a baby develop over the course of school year. It has also taught them about how to meet their classmates' needs and their own personal needs. Thank you to Allison Wesley for her leadership, to Thomas' Mom and to Ms. Robson for collectively fostering such a warm and caring environment.
You can also check out pictures from our Yoga Club with Ms. Calderone. This group has been meeting weekly and they are deepening their yoga practice individually and collectively. A special thank you to Ms. Calderone for her initiative and leadership.
