GENERAL ACHIEVEMENT TEST (GAT)

Wednesday 12th  June, 2017 - 10.00am – 1.15pm

The GAT is a compulsory exam that must be undertaken by all students undertaking one or more units 3 and 4 subject this year.

Students must be assembled in the Red Building Foyer by 9:15am. The GAT commences at 10:00am and concludes at 1:15pm.  Students will be dismissed at that time.

WHAT IS THE GAT?

The GAT is a three-hour test of your general knowledge and skills in:

·         written communication

·         mathematics, science and technology

·         humanities, the arts and social sciences

WHY IS THE GAT IMPORTANT?

·         The GAT is an essential part of the VCE assessment process.

·         The test does not count directly towards your child’s VCE. However, GAT results may play a very important part in determining his/her final assessments for the VCE.

·         GAT results are used to check that your child’s VCE external assessments and School-based Assessments have been accurately and fairly assessed.

·         The GAT is used in these checks because its results are a good predictor of final assessment for VCE studies. If a student has done well on the GAT, they are likely to do well in their School-based Assessments and external assessments.

ABOUT THE GAT

·         The GAT is a single session three-hour test.

·         There are two writing tasks and 70 multiple-choice questions.

Students will only attend school for their scheduled exams during exam week and must be in full school uniform.

Please contact your child’s relevant Year Level Leader should you have any queries regarding these arrangements at the College on 5990 0200.
