ITALIAN DAY 2018

Theme - IL PALIO

Ciao a tutti,

This year our theme for Italian day is Il Palio. During Italian lessons all students have been learning, reading, researching and engaging in different activities related to il palio to prepare for Italian day as well as make it an enjoyable cultural experience.

Il Palio is a famous horse race in Siena. The city is divided into 17 contrade (districts or neighborhoods) and twice a year (July 2nd and August 16th) Piazza del Campo is converted into a race track where people flock to witness the race. Many may think it is crazy, dangerous and insane, but for the people of Siena it is about pride, honour, glory…...it means everything to them.

For our Italian day all the students will belong to one of the following contrade.

-Giraffa

-Oca

-Nicchio

-Aquila

The children will be involved in an opening ceremony, a pasta workshop (with a special guest who has just returned from Siena) races and other fun activities.
