Science Week

National Science Week

An awesome and inspirational time was had by all at our college recently by celebrating “National Science Week” with a wide range of eye catching, mind blowing and hands on activities.

It all started with a very competitive Science quiz for every Science class. The winning groups will soon be battling it out to establish the overall winning group of students for each Year level.

The quiz was then followed by a huge range of hands-on activities including: Film canister Rockets and Slime production in Year 7, the amazing power of Atmospheric pressure in Year 8, Tower building with newspapers in Year 9 and exploding Sodium metal in Year 10!!!

The Elephant Toothpaste and the “eerie” looking Clouds and bubbles formed from Dry Ice subliming was a huge hit, and the shrinking of balloons along with the production of “brittle” leaves, flowers, and bananas with liquid Nitrogen really did have the mobile phones working overtime, with plenty of photo taking and video making opportunities!  Don’t forget to post more of those magnificent images and videos onto the Kurunjang Secondary website and on Facebook and Instagram.

If all that wasn’t enough students were fascinated by the “magic” drink bottle pouring water, milk, flavoured milk and even fizzy lemonade, all from the same bottle!  There was even an incursion organised by our fellow Scientist Mr Tremoulis and his zoo zone students offering students a close encounter with a variety of animals!  So let’s keep on celebrating how wonderful Science is and let’s aim to make next year’s Science week even bigger and better than what it already was!!!
