Senior School News

August

We are nearing the business end of the year for our Senior Students, particularly those in Year 12. Time flies when you are having fun (though some would say this is not the case!)

Most students are making really good progress and are on track to meet their goals. I strongly encourage your support and patience at home. Time spent accessing the Edrolo Program is essential. Eating well and getting adequate rest is also very important. I highly recommend a balance between study and personal life. The benefits of some type of physical activity are well known. Going for a walk, running, playing a sport or going to the gym. Of course BALANCE is the key. Socialising is of course to be included!

Stress –stress relief and feeling overwhelmed is normal in year 12 but consistent feelings of an inability to cope is not. Some stress relief techniques and avoidance ones can be found at https://headspace.org.au/young-people/how-to-reduce-stress-and-prepare-for-exams/

A ‘Suggested Study Tips’ booklet is available in Senior School.

Exam Timetables will be distributed along with information about Exam regulations from VCAA. Please encourage your child to take time to read and familiarise themselves with the process and rules (especially regarding mobile phones!) thanks.

VCE - September Holidays Compulsory Trial Exams- 23rd – 26th September:

During the September School Holiday period there will be compulsory trial exams for all students studying a Unit 3 & 4 VCE study. The purpose is to provide all students with the opportunity to achieve their best result in the end of year examinations. Students benefit from ‘real’ exam experience and will receive invaluable feedback about their strengths and limitations to inform their final weeks of classes and of study needs.  The Trial Exams will be supervised by VCAA Supervisors and will follow the same rules and processes as the final exams conducted by VCAA.  The Trial Exams will be corrected by the Subject Study Teacher and returned to students in Term 4. A timetable for the day will be distributed later in the term.

VCAA Unit 3 and 4 - Exams 30th October – 20th November:

The exam navigator is now available for students. The first exam, their English exam, will be held on Wednesday 30th October. If you need an exam navigator, please ask Senior School.

VET Awards Evening – 19th November

Students that are completing a VET course this year are invited to attend the Melton cluster VET awards evening. This evening celebrates student achievement in their VET courses. It will be held at Tabcorp Park. Information will be delivered to students later in the semester.

Valedictory Dinner –20th November:

Planning for our year 12 Valedictory Dinner has begun. It will take place at Tabcorp Park in Melton. More information regarding costing and an outline for the night will be given prior to the event. Please save this date!

Commendations

It is an expectation that, as senior leaders of the College, our older students reflect the school values. Recently staff nominated many of our Year 11 students who continuously reflect the College School Values of Respect, Responsibility and Achievement. These students were publicly acknowledged at the recent Year 11 assembly and presented with a certificate of recognition. Many more nominations are still coming through to Senior School and students will continue to be recognized and rewarded.

Over the last two weeks, students have been in consultation with Senior School discussing Subject Selections for 2020. These selections are only a stepping stone and further discussions will be held closer to the year to ensure students have chosen the best options for success next year. To coincide with these conversations, over the next few weeks, Year 11 tutorials will focus on pathway choices. All students will be presented with the Wirl program and career and tertiary information to ensure that students are on the right path to success based on their preferences and their skills. Please explore these options with your student and encourage further research now to ensure they have a clear pathway in mind.

Bikes

Congratulations to Mrs Sant and Mr Cullen for their foresight in purchasing a class set of bikes for the VCAL students. We look forward to hearing of their adventures soon.

Thanks for your support.

Remember, please encourage your child to NOT bring their mobile phone to class. We need the best work output and quality, particularly as exams are near.

If you have any concerns or questions please contact one of the Senior School Team directly at the College on 9743 9211.
