The Worm Farm Project

The Advance class is currently working on a project to improve our sustainability practices in our school. The class has purchased four 'Hungry Bin' worm farms. These look just like a green wheelie bin, but they have a special tapered design to capture the worm castings and juice from the bottom. The Hands on Learning group is collaborating on this project and working on creating a base and barrier to be placed around the bins.

Students will also be involved in creating signage and speaking about the project at school assemblies. Our students have researched the importance of having a recycling program in place. Small changes can have a big difference on reducing greenhouse gases and reduce our impact on climate change.

Smaller scrap bins have been placed in the Staff Room, the Student Centre and Food Technology rooms and will be expanded as the program grows.

Hopefully towards the end of the year, the class will be able to use the castings and worm juice in new garden beds around the school.
