Mental Health and Wellbeing

Mental health is more than the absence of mental illness. Mental health is a state of well-being in which an individual realizes their own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and is able to make a contribution to their community (WHO).

Over the last 18 months we have all experienced a level of stress and uncertainty that have challenged us in a variety of ways.  Staff and School Council have been discussing the effects of the last 18 months on all members of our school community and the strategies we can implement to support everyone.

One of our strategies is to talk about wellbeing with the community.  The beginning of the conversation is to provide parents and staff with the attached article from the New York Times.  It is hoped that the adults in our community will read the article and begin the conversation with their friends and colleagues about how they are feeling and the small goals and projects they are working on at the moment to stay focussed.

As a community we can support each other by staying connected.
