Around the Primary Campus

Kindergarten

Our Kindergarten students resumed classes for Term 3 eagerly and excitedly, opening the surprise packets that had arrived during the holidays. Inside were new overalls for Bush Kinder, which went on immediately, ready for their trip to Lambert Park. Many thanks to Mrs Hall for organising the purchase of the overalls.

Tomorrow we will be visiting the Sustainability Centre at Mount Nelson.

Year 3

Every day is a learning in Year 3, and the first week of Term 3 certainly proved that. We had something special and exciting nearly every day this week.

Tuesday: Japanese toy making

This term we will be doing a Yaizu-Hobart Olympics to connect with our sister city in Japan during COVID, in the absence of travel between the cities and therefore our homestay program.  As part of our Olympics, there will be an Australian challenge and a Japanese challenge. We were taught by Gin Chan, a kendama instructor, how to use the traditional Japanese toy for the Japanese Olympics challenge.

Thursday: Spirit of Jesus with Marty Ogle

Marty spent most of Thursday with our class teaching us how to find and be the Spirit of Jesus. We learned how important it is to Greet, Treat and Speak to people with respect and kindness. This includes saying “OK” with a smile and using a person’s name when we thank them.

Jump Rope for Heart

The Heart Foundation is a charity dedicated to fighting the single biggest killer of Australians – heart disease.

For 60 years, they have led the battle to save lives and improve the heart health of all Australians. Their sights are set on a world where people don't suffer or die prematurely because of heart disease

The students have a message for our school community

This year, the primary students of Mount Carmel College are taking part in Jump Rope for Heart. We are skipping to help raise funds for the Heart Foundation. We want to make a difference in our community by raising funds for lifesaving research and we need your help to have the greatest impact.

Please make a donation to our page today. Every donation, big or small, will help and together we can make a real difference to Aussie hearts. Updates will be posted to the Mount Carmel Facebook page.

How we will make a difference

Your generous support helps to educate people and fund research to better prevent and manage heart disease into the future. You help by:

  • Funding high-impact research
  • Working to improve heart disease prevention, detection, care and support
  • Advocating to governments and industry for increased funding and resources for heart health
  • Building community awareness about living a heart-healthy lifestyle. We do this through public health awareness campaigns, accessible information and resources
  • Supporting health professionals in their work to prevent, diagnose, treat and manage heart disease.

Health Benefits of Being Active

Sitting less and being active for 60 minutes or more each day has plenty of health benefits for primary-aged children. Research suggests that active children are more likely to become active and healthy adults, with a lower risk of developing preventable diseases, including heart disease, stroke and some cancers.
