The term started with uncertainty as the situation in NSW worsened and both Victoria and South Australia took drastic action. In school, however, routines are established and students find comfort in the day-to-day. Primary students were introduced to the Semester 2 Student Leaders and the prayer celebration was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the newly appointed leadership positions. Later in the week, the secondary students gathered to hand over a cheque to the Young Leaders of Tasmania - a wonderful charity that supports those living with a disability to reach their full potential. The Secondary Student Leaders have opened the Café for hot chocolates two days a week (Wednesday and Fridays) and raised over $300 for this charity.
The students are engaged with their communities and see the need to support and make a difference in whatever way they can. Young Molly (aged 7) made headlines this week as her TED talk went viral. Whilst she is a paid actor her message is very clear - every child can thrive by five. I needed to watch the clip twice as the first time I viewed it I watched with awe at her confidence and the manner in which she delivered the speech. The second time I was able to listen to the content of her speech. If you haven’t listened to her, it is definitely worth watching.
Our young people are gaining confidence, they navigate the world and question with curiosity what they see, what they hear and what they experience. This is the ultimate goal for education - in questioning we seek to understand and in understanding we learn to connect. Connections are critically important - how we connect with our families, our communities and our world.
Thought of the Week
Deep human connection is....the purpose and the result of a meaningful life - and it will inspire the most amazing acts of love, generosity, and humanity.

Thank you to all the parents and carers who had to make changes to the commencement of the term in order to follow the TasHealth directions to avoid public gatherings and attendance at school. I know that this is not always an easy situation to be in when work commitments and children’s social desires are put on hold to ensure that the community stays safe. I know that the staff at the College appreciated the parent uptake and how supportive families were in navigating this change.
