Year 12 Formal

Red Roses adorned the candlelit tables. Gold lights flashed. Diamond jewels glistened. On July 8, the Class of 2021 spent a magical evening at the Vogue Ballroom. With the hustle and bustle of Year 12, formal was one of the only nights of the year we weren't couped up at our desks, with our heads in textbooks. Instead, we spent the night decked out, under beautiful chandeliers, dancing till our feet hurt, and making memories that will most definitely last a lifetime.

From spending countless weekends trying to find the perfect outfit for the night, or the panic we felt in the hours before the event wondering whether the night would go according to plan. I, for one, can attest to all the worries washing away the second I walked through the doors and was greeted by the warm smiles of my friends and peers. Upon entrance we were greeted with beautifully constructed floral arrangements, and lovely staff serving refreshments. As the night ensued, we were presented with a delectable array of flavours in a 3-course meal, complete with warm, tasteful sticky date pudding for dessert. As our opening act on the dance floor, Mr Bird stole the show with his impromptu (and incredible) performance, followed by the whole cohort belting their hearts out and bopping to music till our heels were sore.

Special shoutout to Ms. Soltys for taking the time to spend, arguably, too many lunchtimes with the formal committee to ensure everything ran smoothly on the night, which it definitely did. As well as to Mr Page and the staff members there on the night, we know spending the evening with your students isn't the most ideal holiday event but we wholeheartedly thank you for being there!

Thank you to the Class of 2021, the formal committee, and the staff for definitely making formal a night to remember for all of us!

Alphine School Experience

We are a group of seven Year 9 students, and have attended the Student Leadership last term. The Alpine School was a unique opportunity that we were lucky to experience. It is a government school in the Victorian Alps, that we were fortunate to attend even during the Covid crisis.

The school teaches us leadership skills through an experiential model of learning, and we participated in many new and exciting activities, such as mountain biking and skiing. There were 42 students from all over the state, and together we formed a close-knit and cohesive cohort.

As part of the program, each school group takes a Community Learning Project (CLP) back to their home school, where they take on the initiative to improve their school or local environment. After brainstorming many different ideas, we agreed upon a CLP.

Our CLP, known as Breathe in the Change, aims to install more outside seating areas in order to encourage Nossal students to get outdoors. Currently, there are minimal tables, and students often eat indoors. By promoting outdoor breaks, the buildings will not only be less crowded, but it will give a chance for the students to meet fellow peers and strengthen community bonds.

On our return to Nossal, we planned to organise a fundraiser partnering with the SRC, PFA and the Rotary Club, in order to raise money for the outside seating. We intend to do this by running a range of fundraising activities.

After receiving approval from the Principal and our liaison teachers, all that is left is to carry out our CLP plans.

Our CLP will not only benefit the community while we are at Nossal, but also once we graduate. It will be a beneficial project to leave behind from our time at both Nossal and The Alpine School.

We would like to thank Mr. Page and Mr. Monaco for their support and contributions towards our CLP.  In addition, we would like to acknowledge Mrs. Michie, our Alpine School liaison teacher, who gave us helpful tips, feedback, and advice.

Lastly, we would like to thank our parents back home, whose never ending and unconditional support has encouraged us to experience these unique opportunities.
