Chinese News

It’s so wonderful to be back face to face with our students!

All our students have been working on their Chinese literacy. We’ve been looking closely at how Chinese characters for ‘eat’, ‘play’ and ‘go’ are made up, what stories are used to remember them, and how different character parts can change and build the meanings of other characters.

Grade 1s are learning to build stories that include different characters doing things together ‘with’ each other.

Grade 2s are starting to build conversations with the word ‘says’ as well as pronouns like ‘I’ and ‘you.’

The upper grades have been working with ‘both’ and ‘all’, along the way learning that both these words in English only need the one word in Chinese: ‘Doù.’

It has also been fun reviewing some of the work set over the remote learning period – looking at the history behind the Terracotta Warriors with China’s first emperor. Also, the story behind the Mid-Autumn Festival: the romantic and sad story of the archer Hou Yi and his wife Cheng ‘E. If all goes well at the end of term we will celebrate Mid-Autumn festival by making and eating delicious Mooncakes!!!
