Around the School
Dog Safety Talk
On Friday 15th November, Transition, kindergarten and Stage 1 had a guest speaker and a guest dog, Indi visited them to deliver the Responsible Pet Education Program. Students learnt how to approach a dog and what to do if a dog is off a leash and near them. They also learnt about being responsible for a pet dog and how to stay safe around pet dogs too.
Over the past fifteen weeks I have had the pleasure of running the Transition program at Guyra Central School. Eager future students have been; learning about our school, exploring the new playground, and meeting new friends both inside and outside the classroom. Students have been focused on writing their name, recognising numbers and building fine motor skills. Pride, respect and responsibility has been shown by transition as they practice the school routines ready for next year. Each student has been provided with a bag of activities to help them continue to prepare for school over the holidays. Please enjoy the activities and help develop a love of learning in our future students. Enjoy your holiday Transition!

NSW Primary School CPR Awareness Campaign
NSW Primary School CPR Awareness Campaign
On Tuesday 19th November 2019, Cameron McFarlane came to our school and gave stage 3 a talk about CPR and lifesaving. Cameron gave us a demonstration of how to administer CPR and taught us what to do when someone is in trouble using dummies. He was very informative and taught us a lot and showed us what to do in a real situation. He explained it well in a way that we all understood and showed us how to administer CPR on a baby, child and an adult. Cameron was very inspiring and hopefully if faced an emergency situation we will all be able to administer CPR if needed.
Thank you Cameron.

On Tuesday 19th November, Cameron McFarlane came to Guyra Central School to give Stage 3 students a demonstration of what to do in the event of a real emergency requiring CPR. He was kind enough to let us use the dummies for us to practice administering CPR after he explained to us how CPR is administered on a baby, child and an adult. Nearly all of us were able to perform CPR on the dummies, well done to Cameron for explaining to us so well in a way that we all understood. Cameron has been attending New South Wales Schools teaching this program and has taught 10,000 children how to do CPR, hopefully that will help save lives. Thank you Cameron for the very informative talk.

Kindergarten celebrates Tongan culture!
Kindergarten have been learning about similarities and differences between people and also learning about different cultures around the world. On Friday 22nd November, Kindergarten were very lucky to have Amy Rose's mother, Mrs Malulupe Davidson come in to talk about Tonga with the class. Mal explained traditional clothing, sports, dances, food, houses and we looked at images of these on the Internet. Kindergarten found Tonga on a world map too. Mal also made a beautiful, traditional Tongan dress for Amy Rose that she wore to show her class. Mal explained to Kindergarten that the style of dress is worn by girls in Tonga for special celebrations within school and the community including sporting events. When Tongan girls wear their beautiful dresses, they also cover their skin in baby oil to make it shine and look even more beautiful. Kindergarten had wonderful morning learning about Tonga and they would like to say a huge thank you to Malulupe for coming in to the school to teach them and also thank you to Amy Rose for dressing up.
Small Schools' Student Leaders Lunch!
On Monday 4th November, our primary student leaders and Mrs Nicholson attended the Small Schools' Student Leaders Lunch which was held at Peterson's Guest House & Winery and hosted by Adam Marshall MP. The lunch was attended by students and staff from small schools' across our district including; Ben Lomond, Chandler Public School, Bald Blair, Ebor Public School and Black Mountain Public School. The luncheon provides opportunities for our young leaders to discuss leadership and meet student leaders from other schools. As stated in a recent Facebook post from Adam Marshall; "I am always amazed with our students maturity, passion and thoughts about regional and national issues are as impressive and inspiring!"
Respectively, Guyra Central School would like to acknowledge and thank Adam Marshall for providing this incredible opportunity to our primary leaders.
