Testing

PISA Testing

Cobram Secondary College has been selected to be involved in one of the international sample assessments of the National Assessment Program, the Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) 2018.

PISA assesses students' skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, science and financial literacy, proving both a national and international perspective.

A random sample of 30, 15 year old students (determined by external agencies) will be completing this test in one of two testing sessions to be held on the following days from 9.30am  to approximately 1.45 pm:

Monday 27 August 2018 - Group One

Thursday 30 August 2018 - Group Two and make up session

This is a compulsory activity and all students are expected to attend. Students in need of Learning Support will be reported to PISA, but they are to complete the process if functionally capable.

Letters have been sent home  to selected students.

NAPLAN School Readiness Test

Cobram Secondary has been identified as a school will be transitioning to online NAPLAN testing for 2019. As a part of our preparations for this process, all Year 7 students and Year 9O students will be completing an omnibus NAPLAN test on Monday 3rd September. Year 7 students will be completing this test in the library using their laptops. Selected Year 9 students will complete the test on the library computers.

We ask that all Year 7 parents support us in the preparation and test day by ensuring that students are bringing their fully charged computers to class every day. We will be working with students in the next two weeks to load a NAPLAN Locked Down Browser that will be used to access the test. Students are also required to bring in headphones as it is possible for sections of the test to be read to them to assist with their completion of the tests.

Reading Comprehension Testing

As a part of our ongoing commitment to reading, students completed their Reading Comprehension tests at the end of last term. These results are currently being shared with them during Illuminate, allowing them to monitor their progress. Whilst we provide information of how students are tracking against their cohort Australia wide, we focus on student growth. Where practical, each student receives an indication of their growth between testing periods. We work with students to focus on their growth descriptor. Students who achieve Growth or Optimal are celebrated with certificates. These are currently being distributed in Illuminate. Students who achieve Growth are not currently achieving the expected level for their year, but are growing at or above the expected level. Students who achieve Optimal are meeting or exceeding the expected level whilst also growing at or above expectations. Students who classified as Must Change are yet to meet growth expectations or year level benchmarks whilst Cruising students are meeting benchmarks but not growing at the expected rate.

Boost students continue to fly!

At Year 8, students are welcomed into the Boost program to support reading growth. They attend one period per day for four days per week, completing the Fountas and Pinnell Literacy program facilitated by Ann Johnston. We continue to see amazing growth amongst this amazing and hardworking group of students.

During a the five month period between tests, we normally expect to see students grow at 0.16 Effect Size. The Boost group have far exceeded this benchmark, achieving growth of 0.21 as a cohort.  We wish to extend the following students our congratulations are achieving growth at or above the expectation. We wish to give a big shout out to Tanayah who has achieved the expected level for Year 8 and is now in the Optimal group of students.
