Principals' Update
Principals' Report
We are in the thick of the work for Term Three, with students engaged in learning and a wide range of extra-curricular activities. We wish to remind all parents that Progressive Reports are released throughout the year, allowing you to monitor your student progress. Dates for release are on your Compass Calendar. If you have any questions about your student, please contact the relevant classroom teacher for further information.
For VCE Year 12 students, Term Three is focused on completing the final Area of Studies and practising for exams. It is a time of preparation for the transition into post school life, particularly tertiary education. In support of this process, we recently held a Year 12 Breakfast to provide tips on how to prepare for the remaining year. The VTAC Information Night allowed families to participate in a hands on tour of the VTAC website.
#WeLead
Our students continue to succeed at Cobram Secondary College. In the last fortnight, we had nine students participate in the United Nations Model Convention at Wangaratta High School. Students joined around 100 other participants from government schools around the North East to engage in an applied learning activity that replicates the passing of resolutions at the United Nations General Assembly. Congratulations to our students who were acknowledged for their preparation and ability to engage in critical thinking on a public stage.
#WeSucceed
We also wish to acknowledge the wonderful achievement of Jorja Dixon, who has been successful in her application to attend the 2019 National Youth Science Forum. This has required her to complete a detailed application, present to the Cobram Rotary Club to be nominated for her region and then attend an interview with the organisers. It occurs over 11 days in January with Year 12 students from all over the country.
#We Grow
In an effort to continue to support our students in their personal and academic growth, we have just completed the Subject Selection Counselling sessions. We would like to thank our families for their participation in this one on one counselling session that allows us to work together to map out the next step in each student’s individual learning journey.
Our next few weeks will be busy on the testing front as a selection of 30, 15 year old students will take part in the PISA testing. PISA assesses students’ skills and knowledge in reading, mathematics, science and financial literacy, providing both a national and international perspective. The results of PISA provide information towards monitoring how well young Australians are meeting important educational goals. Year 7 students and some Year 9 students will also be participating in a School Readiness Test as part of the college transition to online NAPLAN testing for 2019.
#WeCreate
We wish the Senior Concert Band the best of luck as they create wonderful music at the Victorian Music Festival in Hawthorn. We also wish Ellie Jones good wishes as she attends the Rural Education Conference in the next couple of weeks, continuing to advocate for the voice of young people in her role as a Rural Youth Ambassador.
Cobram Secondary College continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting local students in their journey of personal and academic growth across a wide range of areas.
