Dear Parents, Families and Community members,

We hope everyone had a happy and safe holidays.

School Crossing

Our brand new school crossing was operating this week for the first time! Please make sure you say a big “Hello and Welcome” to Wilf, our Crossing Supervisor who will keep families, staff and students safe while using our crossing.

Please continue to observe the speed limits and take extra care during pick up and drop off times.

A big thank you to our School Council and wonderful school community for all your effort campaigning for a safer crossing for our students.

Walk to School Week

Walk to School is back for 2019 and we can’t wait to get walking, riding and scooting to and from school!

Every October, Walk to School encourages Victorian primary school kids to walk, ride or scoot to and from school. It’s a great way to help students learn healthy habits and achieve the recommended 60 minutes of physical activity, every day. It also encourages primary schools, local councils and communities to make active travel easy, safe and accessible.  This year, we will be participating for the week from Monday 14 to Friday 18 October.   Students will have the opportunity to secure house points for simply walking, riding their bike or scooting to school!

Along with the health benefits, walking to school has benefits for the whole community. It reduces traffic congestion, saves on parking, helps us connect with family and friends and even saves the environment! There are so many great reasons to participate in Walk to School this October.

Walk to School creates positive health outcomes. It’s based on extensive research and evidence indicating that increased physical activity in Victorian children can provide real health benefits. To promote physical activity in Victorian communities, VicHealth has funded 71 councils. They play a crucial role in supporting schools and ensuring it’s safe, easy and fun to walk, ride or scoot to school this October.

Smile Squad - School Dental Program

As you may be aware, the Andrews Labor Government has committed $321.9 million over four years to deliver the School Dental Program – the ‘Smile Squad’ – to provide free annual oral health check-ups and free follow up care for all children attending Victorian government primary, secondary and state-funded special schools.

Armstrong Creek School is part of the pilot program for this initiative and this week all students will receive an information pack to bring home.

Participation in this program is completely voluntary with Parent\Guardian Consent.

In the Information Pack you will find a white A4 envelope with the Consent Forms and information about the program inside.  If you wish for your child\ren to participate in this program, please complete and return these forms to school by Friday 18/10/19.

Have a great weekend everyone.
