News from SLC

Maths, Religion, Hopes & Dreams and Social Justice

Our last topic of the year in Maths was Angles. We have learnt about the different types of angles and how to measure angles in both the real world and on paper. We have also drawn angles and found angles in our names. The activity that the students enjoyed was drawing their name on grid paper and discovering the types of angles they have found. We also looked at different fonts and some fonts only have certain angles.

In Religion, we have been following the stories in the Bible during Christmas time. These stories included the well known story of the angel Gabriel being sent to earth and appearing to Mary, who found out she will be having a baby called Jesus. Being inspired by the story we decorated an Angel in what we thought Mary would see or what we think an Angel looks like. We compared the variations of Angels we created and described why we thought the Angel would look like it does.

SLC had a special guest come into the classroom and talk about Graffiti Prevention through the Life Skills Program provided by the Boroondara Council. He talked about how graffiti impacts families and businesses and how these may affect them in terms of the money spent in order to clean up any graffiti. We also talked about the choices we make in day to day life that may lead us down a wrong path. We came up with some strategies like having a plan from A-Z on how to escape situations and standing up for what is right.

As the year draws to a close for our Year 6 students they have been thinking about what they want to do when they are older. Whether that be in the near future of what they want to do in High School or after High School. They all have their aspirations and are proud of what they have achieved at St Bridget's which has set them up with the skills they will need in the coming years. As the last few days wound down there was excitement for the future but it was also is a very emotional time as we say goodbye and remember all the memories we have made over the years together.

Kind Regards
