OUTSTANDING OPPORTUNITIES for our WONDERFUL WORDSMITHS!

In the English faculty we aim to extend our students as much as possible. Currently there are two excellent writing competitions we are encouraging students to participate in to enrich their English studies. Entrants also have the chance to win some great prizes!

The two competitions are:

Takeover Melbourne

Takeover Melbourne is a writing competition open to all high school students living in Melbourne.

Students must produce a true story about an aspect of their life. Stories can be in any format. The recommended length is 400 words; entries close on Saturday 25 June. See the competition’s Top 10 Story Tips and their FAQ for more inspiration.

What could you win?

Winners will have the opportunity to work with ABC producers to have their story featured on the ABC; they will get to look behind the scenes at the ABC and learn about how to make change in their community.

‘What Matters?’

The ‘What Matters?’ competition is an opportunity for students to express their point of view on a current issue. The competition is open to all school students from Years 7 to 12. Students could win up to $1,000 by writing about what matters to them!

Entries are due by Saturday 14 May 2022.

At McKinnon, we also run our own monthly writing competition: Writer Of The Month. This enables our students to participate in literary competitions within our school community. Winners of the February competition will be announced in the next school newsletter.

Students can read the entry requirements, and are able to read all previous winning entries, here: WOTM Google site. In 2022, Dr Dick will be facilitating the competition on the Main Campus and Ms Pentland will be facilitating the competition on the East Campus.

Good luck, McKinnon writers!
