Social Justice Leaders

We were excited to be Social Justice Leaders this year so that we could help raise awareness for different issues. As Social Justice Leaders we raised awareness for the Opening the Doors Foundation with the FIRE Carriers, organised a toy drive and made bracelets for Dolly’s Dream. We also helped to organise the collection of goods for the Feast of the Sacred Heart. We have had the opportunity to assist with whole school liturgies such as the recent Remembrance Day Service. We were disappointed that some of the things we had planned, such as the Vinnies Sleep Out, couldn't run due to COVID.

Socktober Event/Mini Missions is coming up on Monday 29 November. This is to raise money for those in need through Catholic Mission. This year we are raising money for the people of Thailand. It is estimated that 7.2% of the population in Thailand live under the poverty line – that means over five million people in Thailand are living in poverty. Although Thailand is among the most developed economies in the region, the distribution of wealth is among the most unequal in the world. In 2018 the wealthiest 10% of Thai people held over 85% of the nation’s wealth while the poorest half of the population accounted for under 2%.

It has been a great privilege to serve as the St John's 2021 Social Justice Leaders.

Sport Leaders

We were lucky to be chosen and happy that we got to be Sport Leaders because we get to help organise sports equipment and help around the school with pumping up balls and setting up sport activities during lunch.  The Twilight Sports night was really different for us, as Sport Leaders we had to run the training sessions and organise what skills were needed to work on before Twilight Sports.  On the day of the sports we gathered our teams together and practiced our chants.
