Dear Parents and Carers,

The last few weeks have been a whirlwind of different experiences for our students and wider community. Our students have demonstrated a high level of resilience and enthusiasm upon their return to school and class is beginning to get back to a new normal. We have had a number of COVID cases at school and I would like to sincerely thank all parents and carers for their understanding and support in getting students tested, and returning them to school. I know how stressful this is as my own children are also currently going through the same process at their school.  Throughout the rest of 2021 we will be continuing using the gates for drop off and pick up with the staggered times, this is inline with current Health Department advice.

As we progress towards the end of the year, it is with disappointment that we will have to modify some ‘normal’ Somerville Primary School Community and Family activities. Our Christmas Concert will be a virtual event, this is due to school site capacity and density limits in line with DET guidelines. Our Grade 6 Graduation will also be modified, as we get further information alongside Department of Health guidelines we will inform the community of these.

Next Thursday is a very exciting day for our school as we have our UP Day where students will meet their 2022 class and teacher. All of our students have filled in a friendship list, teachers have reviewed academic and social data to form the classes. If you are planning on moving over the holidays please let us know ASAP as this may impact student friendship groups. In our last newsletter for the year we will provide the staff list for 2022 for the community. We have a very strong teaching team continuing for 2022 with some new members of staff and some returning faces.

Have a lovely safe weekend,

David Tapp
