Year 8

Mentone Campus

The Year 8 2021 student cohort have moved in to the Year 9 ‘Flying Start’ program.  Last week they commenced their Unit 1 course work across their core and elective subjects.  It is my great privilege to accompany this year level into Year 9 as I take on the role of Year 9 Coordinator over the next 12 months.

Looking back over the last year, I have been in awe of this group.  While their learning has been in two modes – onsite and offsite – over 4 lockdown periods, I have been amazed at their resilience and good nature in trying to adjust to each circumstance that presented.

Once onsite learning returned in October, it was clear the students were relieved to be in each other’s company again.  Listening to their friendly banter and laughter and watching them join together to play basketball, football, soccer, cricket and handball at recess and lunchtimes have all been welcomed sights and sounds for the teachers.

It is great to see the students are excited about the many possibilities that Year 9 will bring in and outside the classroom. They hope to finally experience the richness of the College’s extracurricular program that the pandemic has denied them.

We hope for each student and his family the summer holidays will herald in a time of optimism, quality relaxation and safe times for all.
