Resource Centre

It has been lovely seeing the enthusiasm on the students' faces in the final weeks of the school year. It has been heartening to see that students are very glad to be back onsite, sharing time with mates and enjoying the relaxed library space.

Farewelling the year 12s always brings mixed emotions, and particularly so during this turbulent time, but they held themselves with maturity and resilience. It was wonderful to have them back in the Resource Centre briefly prior to exams. We wish them all the best in their future endeavours. Likewise, the Brothers' presence back in the library has been welcomed by staff and students.

Our reading programs continue to progress well during Flying Start. We were busy purchasing a large selection of the latest and greatest books while offsite for both campuses, and it has been pleasing seeing the students handling and borrowing traditional books again!

Borrowing data over the last term shows high interest in eBooks and audiobooks as an alternative to more traditional media choices.

During recent RAD (Readers Are Dynamic program) classes at Mentone, 3-4 books of varying genres were showcased to promote the latest purchased books for student interest. Students were asked to record any book recommendations that can be researched for suitability for purchase.

During Flying Start, students are being encouraged to borrow for the holidays, with a gentle reminder to renew or return their overdue books. They are exploring strategies for choosing a book best suited for them and are given quality time for sustained reading. We would envisage a future lesson for students to complete an online general interest and goal setting survey… another tool for purchasing relevant books for the collection to encourage reading and nurturing an ongoing love of literature.

We wish all families and members of the St Bede’s Community a wonderful and blessed Christmas, and a safe and restful break over the New Year.
