Year 10

Bentleigh East Campus

For Year 10 students, Semester 2 has largely been about preparing for the next chapter in their education and development. Unfortunately, the ongoing challenges posed by COVID-19 has also meant a lot of adjustment and altered plans throughout the semester.

The semester commenced with a focus on pathway and subject selection for senior secondary education. Students invested a significant amount of time researching and seeking advice about pathway and subject choices to ensure the futures they aspired to in terms of their careers and working lives could be realised.

Unfortunately, the majority of this work had to be completed while in lockdown. Once again, our students’ resilience and persistence were tested by the challenges of remote learning and the length of time this mode of learning remained in place. Wellbeing and connectedness became a priority for the student body during this time. This was aided by the introduction of a series of lockdown challenges to encourage students to be creative and showcase their talents. Challenges ranged from filming ball trick shots, to baking, telling a joke and creating a masterpiece. The grand finale was ‘Year 10 BE Got Talent’ which drew entries that included a rap song, a Claymation film and a comical informercial. The desire to compete and claim the generous UberEATS vouchers on offer certainly motivated most students to participate.

Thankfully Term 4 brought with it the return to onsite classes. For the students to return after so many weeks away was a tremendously joyous occasion for the school community. Students largely returned well and in good spirits in readiness to complete their final weeks of education at the Bentleigh East campus.

The Year 10 examination period took place from Monday 15 and Thursday 18 November. Students had examinations for their core subjects during this period.

A final assembly took place for Year 10 students on Thursday 18 November to conclude their time at the campus. For students not continuing at St Bede’s College, this also marked the conclusion of their education at the College.

Students continuing their education at St Bede’s College commenced their formal transition to the Mentone campus by meeting with their 2022 Coordinators on the afternoon of Thursday 11 November. This transition then continued on Tuesday 23 November where students moved into the Flying Start Program at the Mentone campus. The Flying Start program will run for two weeks and conclude on Friday 3 December.

Please contact me at the College if you have any questions relating to any upcoming events or experiences for Year 10 students. It has been a pleasure working with all Year 10 students this year and I look forward to hearing about their successes over the coming years.
