 P1, P15, F5 and Buddy Classes Celebrate Children's Week with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic.

What is Children's Week?

Children’s Week is a national celebration which incorporates the United Nations Convention on the rights of the child and includes Universal Children’s Day, which is celebrated all over the world. World leaders produced this historic document for the protection of children all over the world.

Children’s Week asks the world for a greater response to the needs of millions of children around the world who are denied the necessities for a happy childhood and the education to develop to their full potential.

It also calls on us to consider those conditions in society which affect the lives of our own children here in Australia. It is a week that is recognised, promoted and celebrated annually.

On 29th October, Magill School children celebrated Children’s Week with a Teddy Bear’s Picnic. P1, F5, P15 and all of the buddy classes at our school, were lucky enough to share a special lunch together as part of Children’s Week. The sun was shining and we all brought our favourite soft toys along to share in this special event. Seeing our buddies is always a lot of fun and the picnic was no exception.

As the children ate their lunches it was great to hear the discussions between classes grow into in deep conversations. “What’s your favourite video game?”, “Do you have a dog? What’s it name?”, “Is Year 5 hard work?” These were just some of the discussions taking place out in the sunshine.

The picnic was not only a great way to celebrate Children’s Week, but a fantastic way to continue building networks of trust and friendship across the different year levels at our school.
